Reading the brochure for next year, why is it that my Canadian cousins are getting married in August and November? I so wanted to do Route 66- even more following Billy Connolly! Sounds like the May date is full.

Can we have Christmas markets next year?

Have done Memphis and the Deep South with Thomas Cook as a single traveller-great experience but very lonely. Found I had more fun with JY.

Jan.

Must agree travelling as a single in a couples group is likely to be lonely and certainly wouldn't appeal to me. I'd rather travel totally solo (which I've done many times) than go with couples I didn't know but travelling with a singles group is by far the best way to do it so thanks to JY.

Would like to see some more 2 week+ destinations. Only Thailand & NZ left for me. I think a flight of 8 hours+ is not worth it unless it's for at least 2 weeks esp if you've a connecting flight. Some of your destinations e.g. Japan (6 nights), Arg & Braz (8), China (8), Silk Rd (6), etc. are far too short for the long flights involved. I also see some of the slightly longer tours have been taken off, e.g. Malaysia, Petra to Pyramids and Turkey 11 days substituted with a 8 day one. I've recently done the Can Rockies by bus which was too rushed and not long enough - 13 or 14 nights would be better and forget the Alaska cruise (not much to see on it coupled with possibility of rough seas). I think some new 'exciting' long haul destinations are needed (Borneo, Burma, more USA, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Chile (+other S & Central America), 2 week Mexico, etc.). Also European holidays longer than a week.

An afterthought to this post - someone mentioned the high cost of long haul holidays - suggestion:- maybe downgrade hotels slightly and do some 'economy' trips; or give a choice of 3* or 4* hotels; also team up with Travelsphere on some of their trips, e.g. Burma, Borneo, India & Nepal, etc. and include 12 single spaces (inc supplement) - may entice more singles to go if there was at least this number on any given trip.

Excellent idea Daphne as it would give single travellers a much greater choice of holidays and we wouldn't be the odd 3 or 4 solo travellers amongst the couples - the odd dozen doesn't sound nearly as bad!!

Best wishes,

Bob

This is a well-timed discussion, Daphne and Bob. My own JY holiday to Costa Rica was recently cancelled but I was offered the chance to switch to the Travelsphere version. I hesitated because - well, couples! But as it turns out, there will now be 10 single people on that tour, mostly switchers from JY, so I've decided to try it. It's slightly different, a day longer and marginally cheaper, even with the single supplement.

To add to the discussion about what holidays I'd like to see - Zanzibar! Mostly offered as an add-on to Tanzania by other tour companies.

Cheers,

Lynne

Hi Mick,

I'm also a fan of America and having done tours (Golden West and Parks & Canyons which were wonderful, I would like perhaps a more relaxing twin centre holiday - say 5 nights in San Francisco and 5 in somewhere like Santa Barbara of Santa Monica. Just another suggestion!

After watching a doc on Nat Geo Wild recently I'd love to do Tanzania and Rwanda - Mt Kilimanjaro, wildlife parks and mountain gorillas - it would be amazing!

I agree with all the above. A singles group within a travelsphere group would be an excellent idea and would give a far greater range of holidays. I would like to see some provision for cruises as well. I did the stay and cruise which was available from Florida with JYand it was very good but was discontinued along with one from California.

The only problem I could see would be if there weren't many "singles" booking the trip, you might end up with the same problem of being a very small minority among a load of couples.

Maybe if JY did it, they could give you the number or proportion of the total of singles booked, say, a month before travel and if it wasn't very many, allow you to change your trip

Not sure if it has already been mentioned, having been to the Little Big Horn a couple of years ago, how about adding some American Civil War site tours, I have seen another Company doing one starting and ending in Washington DC.

Hi Pat,

Agree with what you say as I like city breaks aswell as tourin holidays. Sometimes taking in 2 cities (5 days each) with flights between instead of long coach journeys would appeal to many people I think.

I've done it myself in the US on a number of occasions

New York - Chicago

Philadelphia - Atlanta

Houston - San Antonio

Seattle - Chicago

There are so many combinations that can be put together.

Was thinking what holidays I'd like to see added to the many options JY already offer us single travellers.

Maybe if a few of us come up with a few good ideas people at JY will take note and possibly look into adding some of them.

For me I'm a big fan of travelling to America and I've come up with 3 holidays I'd love to do.

1. Route 66 - Always been an ambition of mine to do this and as JY's sister company do it reckon its a real possibility to add.

2. Music Capitals of the Deep South - This was in last years brochure, but as dissapeared, just my luck as I was intending to do it.

3. Route 61 - Ok this is a total new idea I believe but this route follows the Mississippi river from New Orleans to Chicago basically visiting all the great "Blues" music cities (New Orleans, Memphis, St Louis & Chicago) plus you could add places like Baton Rouge and also Clarksdale (birthplace of the Blues). Ok I'm a fan of Blues music and I'll add Chicago is my favorite city in the US.

Ok thats my suggestions, anyone else ?

Hi

That sounds great to me. I've just booked Route 66 in May, so Route 61 would be a good follow on trip. Love music, so anything to do with music would be wonderful

Sorry, but your destinations do not appeal to me!

My wish list is a very diverse choice: Hawaii, the Channel Islands, Fiji (not as part of NZ add on) and Tasmania, to name but a few.  :)

I would like to go to San Sebastián and Biarritz.  Also some Christmas Markets please.  Have said before that I would prefer a ballet weekend instead of the normal opera weekend.

Thanks for asking,

My first one, about 12 years ago, was called ' Postcards from Provence' I would love to go to this area again, we stayed in Cavaillon near Marseille & visited the Camargue.

I'd also like to do a Rhone river cruise, but I have got to the age where I'd only wish to go from my local airport, Gatwick !

And please, more in Europe. JY seem to be concentrating on long haul trips now.
