Hello Mick

I went to Crete some years ago. It was a lovely place and there are fascinating places to visit, ancient ruins, walks, lovely countryside and spectacular views.

this would be my choice.

Hi Lesley and Cindy!

Yes we are definitely all different and it is good to have a range of holidays to appeal to different tastes, but the thing is that there are other companies especially Solos that specialise in activity and adventure holidays and cater for single travellers and I don't think that JY should go down that route, to the detriment of their choice of touring holidays (which no other company specialises in for single travellers). Cindy you are lucky to have been going on JY hols for a number of years, esp when the choice seems to have been wider a few years back. I only came across JY by accident last year, despite doing various Google searches for just such a company previously. I'm doing as many hols as I can afford, just in case they disappear from the brochure too!! I think JY is wonderful and am hopeful that next year's brochure will feature an even wider range of hols, both short and long haul!

Best wishes,

Bob

Since my dealings with JY from 2006, the brochure has changed in the variety of holiday's offered, it now includes the discovery weekends and the all inclusive type of holidays, so I think there is more on offer nowadays, plus I do know they have run a series of information nights at venues for people to attend to learn more. I am sure that if enough people show an interest in a certain style of tour,, and I am sure JY must ask peoples opinions about what we the traveller want they take it on board. As the petitioning of the Route 66 tour shows. It seems strange that you only found JY recentley, and I wish you all the best on your travels with them. Some tours have always been around sso they must be the popular tours, I find if a tour isnt popular then they of course drop that the next brochure. I was very surprised that the Memphis and Nashville tour I went on did not hang around for long, I had a great time.

I would also like to see more Greek Island holidays, such as Corfu.

Most of the holidays in the brochure are way out of my price range, I would also like to see more breaks in Britain not just the discovery weekends and reunion breaks.

I would like to see more city breaks such as Rome, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Oslo, etc.

Also, more UK breaks but without the themed activities. Solos Holidays does activity breaks in the UK and I don't go for that reason; I may be interested in the place, but not the chosen activity. I know JY is planning this type of break in the near future and it sounds great for those who like them, so a balance between themed and non-themed would be welcome.

And more breaks in Scotland in particular please. I think visits to the Highlands or Isles would be great additions to your catalogue .

Having said all that, I must add thanks to JY for happy holidays I have taken thus far.

Would like to see some more 2 week+ destinations. Only Thailand & NZ left for me. I think a flight of 8 hours+ is not worth it unless it's for at least 2 weeks esp if you've a connecting flight. Some of your destinations e.g. Japan (6 nights), Arg & Braz (8), China (8), Silk Rd (6), etc. are far too short for the long flights involved. I also see some of the slightly longer tours have been taken off, e.g. Malaysia, Petra to Pyramids and Turkey 11 days substituted with a 8 day one. I've recently done the Can Rockies by bus which was too rushed and not long enough - 13 or 14 nights would be better and forget the Alaska cruise (not much to see on it coupled with possibility of rough seas). I think some new 'exciting' long haul destinations are needed (Borneo, Burma, more USA, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Chile (+other S & Central America), 2 week Mexico, etc.). Also European holidays longer than a week.

I agree with much of what daphnemca says but the problem would be cost I think. Holidays in this bracket would be £3,000 plus and not in everyone's price range. Having said that I'm afraid I do find this years brochure rather dull.

I'm a fan of river cruises, and have booked Gems of Andalucia for next year. The one I'd really like to do is the cruise from Moscow to St Petersburg, with a stay at either end.

I know JY do Moscow/St P by rail, but the cruise is supposed to be fantastic, you see much more of the way people live.

2013, JY?;)

Patagonia would be my dream destination.

I'd also like to see the Kenya trip changing to include a couple of days in Nairobi. The elephant orphanage, the giraffe sanctuary, Karen Blixen museum would be a must for me

I agree with Helen and Janice, it's a pity these tours were dropped. I suppose they mustn't have proved popular and in these tight economic times I'm sure JY and their parent companies can't afford to keep them on indefinitely in the hope that bookings will pick up for them the following year. Just received my JY brochure for 2012/13 and am delighted to see the New England in the Fall has been extended to include Canada and there is now a Cambodia add-on to the Vietnam trip. Not sure I'll be able to do either in 2012, due to prior commitments but I really hope both will still be around in 2013!!

I would like some more European holidays in November. There seems to be lots around Christmas /New Year but I can't go then.

RE: what holiday ?

Winter Canary Islands sounds good. Not too far to go, lovely warm weather, reasonably civilised. I prefer Lanzarote, but there are plenty to go round.

Although I am doing the Kenya trip next year I really fancy going to one of the smaller African countries that is not so touristy. In fact any country where there is lots of wildlife but not too many tourists if there is such a place. This will be my first long haul trip so I will have many years for new ones to come up but of course there is already lots to choose from.

Hi

What about a cruise so that we are not stung by single supplement. I have spoken to a lot of people who would love to go on a cruise but are put off by the fact it can cost more for one person than for two.

I'd love to see Frans Josef Land or South Georgia. Somewhere very cold and extreme!!

Reading the brochure for next year, why is it that my Canadian cousins are getting married in August and November? I so wanted to do Route 66- even more following Billy Connolly! Sounds like the May date is full.

Can we have Christmas markets next year?

Have done Memphis and the Deep South with Thomas Cook as a single traveller-great experience but very lonely. Found I had more fun with JY.

I would like to see more holidays in the summer. I know it's busier then but I work in a school and am obviously limited to the holidays and there are very few choices on the dates I am able to go away.

I agree with JoH about longing for more choice during the school Summer holidays. Before all the non teachers point out how lucky we are with holidays - I know we are very lucky! We do appreciate the long breaks (but we do genuinely work during the hols too).

The downside is that we have no flexibility outside the set school holiday dates. So many attractive holidays have dates in June & Sepember, but not in July & August.

I will probably not go with JY in 2012 just because nothing appeals (I had the same situation in 2010). Hey ho.

An afterthought to this post - someone mentioned the high cost of long haul holidays - suggestion:- maybe downgrade hotels slightly and do some 'economy' trips; or give a choice of 3* or 4* hotels; also team up with Travelsphere on some of their trips, e.g. Burma, Borneo, India & Nepal, etc. and include 12 single spaces (inc supplement) - may entice more singles to go if there was at least this number on any given trip.
