Hi. I'm thinking of booking a holiday for next year but a little apprehensive as haven't done this sort of thing before.

So just like to know a few things really;

1. If anyone know the average age of people going? (I'm 29)

2. Any recomendations I'd like to go to america?

3. Is it easy meeting and tagging along with people? (you know what i mean. lol)

Not really sure what else to ask but any help/ advise would be great

Hi Huggs

1. At 29 you will be one of (if not the) youngest and possibly by some margin. The average age is 50-60, although there is often a few younger than that, particularly on the more active touring holidays. Try not to let that put you off. Most JY customers are young at heart and although often said, it really is true that age is only a number.

2. Have a look through previous posts. The holidays to the US are extremely popular and you have a good selection to chose from.

3. The point of these holidays is that you are never left on your own unless you chose to be. You will easily find people to pal up with and the rep is there to see no one is left out.

The easy way to find out about these holidays is to go ahead and try it out. You will see from other posts that no one regrets it and as soon as they get back home they look in he brochure for the next one!

Hello Huggs

I have been on 10 JY tours including 4 USA tours...

Boston New England and New York

East Coastliner

Nashville and Memphis

Florida

So it's a big thumbs up for USA tours for me....

You see such a lot by going with JY and certain things are included so you don't feel like you putting your hand in your pocket every time you go some where...hotels can vary but some nights your only in it for 1 night so as long as it's clean it's fine by me...there can be early starts but that's because your either moving on somewhere or you have something great to see.

At 29 you will be on the younger side.. LUCKY you!! I am 54 And have been travelling with JY since 2006. The core group age I would say is 55-70 with younger and older either side.. If you have your eye on a certain tour post on the editors boards on here and Julia can give you age range and m/f ratio etc, if that would help... We all do rub along well with all the ages, so do not let that put you off...I hope some of the YOUNGER ones on here will answer you.

People do seem to buddy up as time goes on but you won't be left on your own unless you want to, we are all on the holiday together, sometimes the groups depend on who is eating what and where, that sort of thing, you will be fine I am sure.

All I can say is that each holiday for me has been an adventure, I don't like sitting around I like being in the move and seeing things, I have spent some great quality time with younger and older people! I have had some very funny laughing times! and something's have moved me to the point of tears, (sailing on Milford Sound beauty beyond words, my first helicopter flight over Empire State tears of fear LOL but I have done many others since).

I always treat these tours as adventure, some people I will get on with others I won't, but hey it's only a very short time span and life is to short to hang back..

If I can help with anything else just ask!!

have fun

Cindy

Hi there,

To start with, age is totally irrelevant on JY holidays - you would find that the age ranges can be from early 20's to up into the 80's and that's what makes it so good. It's very easy to mix with fellow holidaymakers as we are all there for the same reason - we want to see different places and sometimes have to go on our own to do so. It's extremely safe as you never really have to be on your own unless you want a few quiet times to yourself! I'm going to New England and Canada on Thursday, and this is my 4th holiday with JY and I've also been on the weekend break to see if I'd like it (although that can feel different than it does on a holiday!) I did Canada and Alaska 2 years ago, also Greece and a Christmas holiday in UK and am doing another Christmas break this year - I guess that says if it wasn't good, I wouldn't go back with then! I'm sure others on this site will tell you the same, so just go for it and you'll have the time of your life!

Take care, and hope this helps

Hi Huggs, I can answer your questions as follows:

Age Groups: The age range varies from young (your age!) to much older people who are young at heart! You will all have something in common 'cos you all booked the same holiday!

USA Recommendations: I did the JY tour of the USA National Parks together with Little Big Horn earlier this year which was fantastic. I can highly recommend this holiday as a classic American road trip. I've also been to New York a couple of times (not with JY) but see that JY have included this a city break in the latest brochure. New York is the most exciting city ever and I'm sure you would enjoy it.

Meeting people: This is really easy as everyone is very friendly. I'm sure that you will meet people that you can connect with and will probably make life-long friends! I still keep in touch with people I met on my first singles holiday over 3 years ago.

So, just think of somewhere you always wanted to go and book it - you won't regret it. I hope that my USA recommendations have given you 'food for thought'. Cheers, Mike

Hey

I stubbled across this site in August and booked my first holiday to fly out next week. I'm 28 and from reading the forum everyone is mixed ages. I've booked the America's gold west trip, all the trips look good but book what you would like to do/see.

I can let you know more once I'm back? But everyone is in the same position as you, on their own and wanting a holiday.

Hi Cindy

I really do think you should get some kind of commission from JY for all the info you put on here! You are such a positive influence on all forum members! If you ever took up politics, I reckon you would be the good, honest politician out there - which means that you'd be in a minority of 1!!!!!!

Am heading down to London tomorrow night in preparation for the New England holiday on Thursday - am I excited or what!!! Will definitely do a review for you when I get back.

Take care

Hi,

I'm now 32 and have so far done 3 JY holidays so I was probably around 29 when I started using the company. Yes I'm normally the youngest and by quite a lot but I've always got on well with the others. There are often 1 or 2 that are more towards our age bracket and the USA trips probably have a high group number so im sure you will find a friend! Just book the trip you fancy and I'm sure you will have a fab time.

I haven't done any of the USA trips with JY but I'm sure they will be full on so you won't have time to be on your own. So far I've been to china this year, Costa Rica last year and Luxembourg before that. Luxembourg was my test the waters trip! China was fab and all food was included so you didn't have to worry about finding somewhere on your own! I tend to go for trips that have a full itinerary, as you won't have time to be bored or alone! Go for it! It's so nice to be able to go to far flung places on your own but as part of a group!

Let me know if you want any further info on anything and I will try to help as a follower youngster!

Hi Huggs,

I'm 43 and have been on 6 JY tours with the 7th booked - I've done two US tours which are two of their most popular tours as well: America's Golden West and the National Parks tour (just back last week, utterly amazing in every way!). I've obviously been one of the youngest - and on the Vietnam/Cambodia tour in Feb this year I was the youngest by 10 years - but and this is a very important BUT: even one the other tours when I was not the youngest, I have never hung around with those younger than me, as I have gravitated towards those who were the most fun! And they have usually been ladies a few years older than me!!! In my social circle at home I've friends ranging in age from their 20s to 60s but on JY hols I have to say that without exception the best fun I've had has been with ladies a bit older than me! So don't let the age range put you off. If either of the hols I've been on appeal to you at all, let me know and I'll tell you all I can about them (I've just put up a very long review of the national parks tour on the Reviews forum, so have a look at that if you like).

After all that if you're still anxious (and there's no need to be), especially about eating by yourself, go for a tour that has most of the meals included and you'll be guaranteed some dining companions. On all the tours I've done, I've only ever eaten by myself a couple of times, and that was either because I chose to do so, or didn't make arrangements with some of the others (so my fault!). JY hols are very sociable but not "in your face" so you can have as little or as much interaction as you like.

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Huggs

Welcome to the JY Community!

As a recommendation for both your first and a US trip, I would suggest America's Golden West which will give you a vast range of experiences and adventures. From the Grand Canyon and Vegas, the Aerial Tramway in Palm Springs and a stroll on Malibu Beach to the quirkiness of Monterey, the craziness of Hollywood, the eerieness of Alcatraz and the aromatic sealions of San Francisco, this trip has it all!

As all the other posters have said - do not worry about the age range or M/F mix. On a JY trip you may get people from 23 -84 (as I have) and 18 ladies with three men, but everyone has the same goal - to have a fabulous holiday experience and you will certainly get that.

If you've got any specific questions on the AGW tour - happy to help as I did it a couple of years ago and would seriously consider doing it again (once I've worked my way through the rest of the brochure!)

Take the plunge - you won't regret it!

The best thing to do is a discovery weekend you will see if you like it, the first holiday I went on was to costa del la lux in Spain, beautiful place, hotel and food was fantastic, it's a holiday with fun and fun people very popular venue, trips are great especially Seville, I liked so much I went back this last September with a lady I met last June, I'm going to canada and New England in the fall next September. I'm 58 but there is usually younger and older than me on these tours. Julie

Hi, Im 27 and i started using JY when i was 22. Its safe and enjoyable way to travel. I have been on 4 tours so far and on all bar one i was the youngest, however on all i have found age to never be an issue. Essentially we are all there to have a good time and enjoy the destination!
