I am on the Spirit of India tour on 17th February and was just wondering if we are allowed to lock our suitcases? I know you have to leave them unlocked for certain countries, but I was wondering what the rules are for India? Thank you.
Regards,
Jan
I've not heard that you shouldn't lock your suitcase for India. My advice would be to secure your suitcase unless your Tour Manager advises you differently.
I personally use a TSA approved security lock when I travel which allows airline security to open my luggage, and lock it again if required without damaging the lock or suitcase.
Kindest regards,
Julia

Hello Jan
I have been to India a couple of times and on both occasions I just used an ordinary padlock with no problems, so unless things have changed quite recently you should be o.k. with what ever preference of lock you would like to use. Have a great holiday.

As long as the lock isn't damaged it is be fine to reuse.
TSA locks have universal "master" key held by airline security. This enables them to access your luggage should they need to physically inspect it.
Do the airports in many countries have master keys for TSA locks - I thought it was just in the US?
Cheers,
Bob
Like I mentioned it's my personal preference so I'm not sure of how worldwide the locks have gone but I've never encountered any problems (but then I don't pack anything that would cause them to want to look in my suitcase).
Ultimately, if security want to get into your suitcase, regardless as to how it is locked, they'll get into it.
my case is in my possession till check in and then again with me straight of the conveyor belt. I know many people that work at LHR and if they want to get into your case they will. I NEVER pack anything that is that important in my case. As I say this is just my personal opinion.
