I will go on my first Just You holiday in March to Cuba and I need a new suitcase.

What size would be ideal? I'm used to travelling light but don't know if I could fit all needed in cabin baggage size.

Hi Wendy,

I would recommend taking a suitcase that you would be able to put in the hold, so larger than a cabin sized bag. As the tour is 16 days long, I am sure you'll be able to fill a larger bag sufficiently - well I know I certainly would!!

Maybe someone who has been before will be able to tell you what to take so you can gage what size suitcase you will need.

Kindest regards,

Monty

Hi Wendy

I recently bought a very light weight (It brand) suitcase in Argos. It was half the price of anywhere else and would be ideal for your 16 day holiday.

Hope this helps

All the holidays I have done with JY including 22 days to NZ have been with a normal sized light weight case that does have the capacity to expand if need be! Normally weight limit is 17 kgs, think we usually have approx 20-22kgs allowance. It does have wheels to make life easier. I only take a very small back pack on the plane.

Have a great trip away.

Hi Wendy

I went to Cuba in March of last year. At that time I took my larger (and only) suitcase at size 28". Now a very seasoned, light traveller so have invested in a 26" one, which I took on my first trip to Finland in August and it was perfect. But, it's entirely up to you.

Enjoy

I was in Cuba earlier in the year. Not sure if the JY itinerary includes an internal flight. If it does, the baggage allowance will be less than for your transatlantic flight.

Monty,

Could you check this weight restrictions for the Cuba trip (internal flight) ?

Am on this hol later this month and can only recall 23kg on my paperwork. Can't check at present as out the country.

Would hate to have to leave my dancing shoes at home to reduce the weight  😃

Hi Mick,

The internal weight restriction is 20kg, so please bare this in mind when packing you suitcase. Looks like you may have to leave your dancing shoes at home this time...might be quite fortunate for your fellow travellers.

Kindest Regards,

Monty

I nearly missed that one too. When you get back its hidden away on page 8 - as Monty says 20kgs (no mention of hand luggage but presume its 5kgs). On the internal flight you have to make sure your umbrella is in your hold luggage and all prescription medication is in your hand luggage. You could always wear your dancing shoes on the flight.......!

See you in 12 days.

Sally,

I tend to go for the more relaxed look of slippers and pipe for the flight, lol.

In another note for those interested I flew back from Madrid yesterday and don't know if it was just my flights but they were having a big crackdown on size of hand luggage.

Was checking size of everyone and putting a good few into the hold (a few people not happy but to be honest no sympathy from me, rules are rules and just because you get away with it on one flight isn't an excuse).

So be careful with dimensions of hand luggage.

That was with BA.

I noticed on a family holiday recently that they were very firm with the weight allowance that was going in the hold, going out and coming back and we're making people take stuff out of the main case..to put in hand luggage and if that was over tough..

Like you I agree NO SYMPATHY!!!

My hand luggage is usually a back pack so hopefully I should not have any problems with any of the airlines. Also, I have learnt to pack lightly and make an allowance for souvenirs etc so do not tend to go over the weight limit. Those were the days when there were no strict weight limits for the hold luggage!!

I do same Jaya a small back pack as find it easier to handle when got my main case.

The allowance is quite big with BA for cabin luggage but seeing the size of the luggage some people were trying to get onboard was silly.

I agree Mick. People were abusing the system and bringing large cases onboard and if you wanted to make sure you got some space in the overhead lockers, then you had to be quick. I also thought it was a health and safety issue because if one of those big cases fell on somebody's head, then I doubt if they would survive!!
