I am thinking of going to China in May 2019. Are there many booked on that trip? Also any tips on what clothes to take. Infact any info will be great.
Everything Chris said! Only my suitcase came home 5kg heavier.... Layers definitely a good idea, as are packing cubes and sensible walking shoes with a good grip (especially for the damp areas).
In our group, people tended to dress up a bit for evening meals so prepare some smart casual outfits for that if you want to - but if you prefer to stay casual, that's fine too.
Air China don't provide much in the way of extras on the overnight flight (just a blanket) so if you like eyemask/ear plugs/cosy socks, take your own. The hotels there usually have travel toothbrush and toothpaste so it's handy to take one for the flight back.
There a great little bar round the corner from the hotel in Shanghai (turn left as you exit the front door) - looks tiny from the outside but has multiple floors and really quirky rooms to relax in, including one just with floor cushions. And a bell so you can ring for service if you don't want to trek up and down stairs to get a fresh drink!
If you can't be without social media, what's app, Google for the length of your holiday, I recommend signing up to a VPN before you go. I used Express VPN (others are available) and it cost about £10. It allowed me to stay in contact with my family while I was away and I'm glad I had it.
We were there in October and weather was fine - not too hot, not too cold, and air quality was generally ok. I'd taken face masks in case it was really smoggy but didn't need them. I don't know what weather will be like in May but worth researching to make sure you get the best time of year (I guess May would be good!)
It's a fab trip - genuinely so many highlights and you won't believe just how much you cram into your visit. Hope you have a wonderful time!
