Looking to do first overseas holiday on my own and feeling quite nervous. I've spent the last couple of weeks trying to pluck up the courage to book the Inspirational China from Heathrow. Almost booked it and then read reviews on Air China which has now put me back into panic mode as the most recent ones were very negative. Is there anybody out there who can reassure me re Air China as I really want to do the trip.

Thanks.

I did this trip in September 2013. It still ranks as one of my all time best holidays. I flew business with Air China and was really well looked after. I didn't hear any major complaints about economy from my fellow travellers. The meals choices are limited to basically eastern or western but food is well cooked and presented. The breakfast was also very good. Air China don't provide amenity kits, so take a small travel toothbrush lip balm and moisturiser on board with you. The main reason that I upgraded was that arriving in Beijing after a ten hour overnight flight, my tour went straight into a full day tour. I need my full eight hours! The internal flights, in economy, were all very good. If you want to see China, don't let Air China flights put you off. I had two much worse flights with BA last autumn.

Hi Irene

This was my first trip with JY back in 2010. Itinerary has changed a bit but I can assure you this trip is a great experience which I am sure you will enjoy. We flew with Air China and I had no concerns about the flights.

My advice is go for it!!!

Hi Irene, I did this tour last Sept and flew Air China and they were absolutely fine. Don't mind the reviews, many people love to complain and find fault! Once they get you safely from A to B that's all that really matters.

I hope you book, it would be an awful shame to miss out on this great holiday because of reservations about the airline.

Best wishes,

Bob

I really wouldn't worry, like Bob says, it's getting you from a to b, it's the tour and holiday experience your going for.

I think like many things in life sometimes things are good sometimes they are bad, we all have different expectations, so I would say, go and give it a try and make up YOUR own mind.

Hope you have a great tour and don't forget to write a review when you come back and about your experience of this airline, it does help people make up their minds.

I have flown with Air China four times. No complaints on any of the flights.

I am a very nervous flier, so can understand concern over some lesser known airlines. Service on board is very important in helping me deal with my (irrational I know), fears. But, if I want to see far flung places, I do have to get on a plane. After two of my worst flights ever with BA recently, I have sadly ruled out any further long haul flights with them. Luckily I have already done most of the American destinations that I want to do.

Irene:

Don't let anything or anybody put you off going to China! I did this trip in October 2013 and it really was THE BEST HOLIDAY I'VE EVER HAD!! A true highlight almost every day, many world-famous iconic sites.

Air China was fine with excellent service. But be prepared for a dreadful journey home (but only if you add on the Yangtze extension.) Nothing to do with the airline or flying, just awful timing, unless it's changed since then. We were up by 07:00am and off the ship by 08:30am on to a coach for a city tour (Chongqing) before an afternoon "resting" in a hotel with a couple of rooms reserved for our use, just to freshen up. 3-4 hours later, a coach to the airport for the flight to Beijing and a five-hour wait for departure at 01:30am!! Arrival at Gatwick 10½ hrs later at 06:00 GMT, ready for a full day ahead, having been up already for 31 hours – minus whatever sleep one managed to get on the longer flight. I managed three.

However, I'd do it all again – twice – and have told everybody how they must go! So, as they say: BOOK NOW!

I am booked to go on the inspirational China tour from Heathrow in September. I have a question for those who have been before - do we check into the Air China flights ourselves? I was wondering about the flights to/from Beijing and the internal flights?

Hi Marie, you check in at the airport in the normal way - for the internal flights I think the tour manager will check you in and get boarding passes. I can't remember the detail now but don't remember it as being difficult. The only complication was transferring at Beijing on the way home after the flight from Shanghai but we all found the gate in the end!

Best wishes,

Bob

Things may have changed since 2013 but back then, we checked in for outward and inbound long haul flights as normal. For most of the internal flights, check in was done for us. Our luggage was collected from the rooms, and taken ahead to check in. When we arrived at the airport, our tour manager was handed all the baggage receipts, and boarding passes. The system worked really well, and minimised the time we spent in the airports.

This is a fantastic trip, you shouldn't let the flights worry you. I went in May 2013. There are a lot of reviews on here (including mine) you won't be disappointed in this trip. The flights were fine, but other people had advised to stay away from the porridge! If you have any other questions, just ask.

When I went we were assisted by the rep on every flight including all the internal ones. It is worth remembering you will pick up souvenirs along the way which add to your luggage, so just be wary of the weight limit! If you were a little over that was ok but one lady was over by quite a lot and had to take stuff out of suitcase into hand luggage!

If you have any questions, just ask. You'll have a fab time
