If you just want single trip insurance it would be easiest to go through JY.

If you are thinking of doing more than one holiday in 12 month suggest you shop around for annual insurance. I was with the Post Office for a few years and it was fine, had one claim and the dealt with it very quickly (believe they ar underwritten by AXA).

Remember to get exactly what you want (europe only, worldwide or worldwide plus america) as it makes a big difference to the cost.

I've recently changed to getting mine through my bank account (Lloyds Platinum account) which for a monthly fee gives me worldwide travel insurance and AA membership along with other benefits. Its also underwritten by AXA.

I use Explorer because I can get my medical condition covered at no extra cost, and it includes natural disaster cover as well. If you book an airport hotel with or without parking through Holiday Extras you can get natural disaster cover as an add on for about £3.00.

No idea about claims, have been lucky and not had to make one.

Best insurance deals vary according to personal circumstances, age and pre-existing conditions are crucial factors. Also, it's important that the policy includes repatriation, especially on long haul trips. In the infortunate event of accident or emergency surgery, it may be necessary to fly home in bussiness class, which would be a big expense. The best advice is to shop around and make sure the policy is right for you.

Hi Cindy,

The 2014/15 brochure still states they do (page 12), perhaps Julia can confirm whether they do or not.

Wouldn't be sure as like yourself get annual elsewhere.

Hi All,

For insurance, we now recommend our partners Holiday Extras who are underwritten by Allianz Global Assistance.

They have a range of comprehensive cover options including annual policies for those who prefer to travel more than once a year.

You can speak to a member of their friendly by calling 0800 042 0201 and quoting ALJUS

Kindest regards,

Julia

Some nsurance policies included in bank account packages have upper age limits. I was on holiday last year with a lady who broke her ankle. She had relied on insurance from her bank for many years. When she called them to ask for assistance, she was told her policy was void because she was several years over the upper age limit. Also, although the same lady was treated in a public hospital in Spain, she wasn't carrying her European health card, so was forced to pay the full cost of her treatment.

I use Insure and Go for my travel insurance. They are quite reasonable and you can choose the policy you want. It is always wise to take adequate travel insurance depending on where you are travelling to as costs in some countries are more than others.

I use Go Travel and take an annual policy as I tend to do more than one trip a year, and I get cash back through where I work

Couldn't agree more Jaya. I have only claimed once on travel insurance when my partner needed an emergency operation in Egypt. The insurers took care of everything. We caculated the bill, would have been over £30,000 not including repatriation. The insurance premium was worth every penny. Now I make very sure I have adequate cover for every trip I take.

That is correct mine certainly has a upper age limit, fortunately a bit of time to go yet.

Hi Cindy,

I know i am late to the table with this thread. and most of your questions have been answered.

One thing that is imperative, well I think its is, get the best cover you can afford, think worst case scenario and ensure you have "REPATRIATION" included in your cover.

I work in the aviation logistic, an AIR AMBULANCE to bring you home if you fall seriously ill, or have a bad fall cost a fortune. Even within Europe.

God willing you will never need it.

.

Its amazing how many people need to be repatriated for medical reasons, and if your insurance does not cover this, you might be forced to find the cash in advance.

I'm sure the recommended insurance through a reputable company such as JY is a good option.

All the best

Alex

Sound advice Alex. I am always amazed at how many people I meet on holidays across the world who don't have any kind of travel insurance. Repatriation costs are often not included in the cheapest basic policies. Also, as an older traveller, I find that different companies give me the best deals for Europe and long haul. Comparison websites are very good for getting the best price but you do need to read all the small print and make sure you are comparing like for like.
