Greetings Mr Gray

You certainly know how to stretch our little grey cells, don't you! Here are the results from the Jersey jury:

  1. Ultimate Alaska - Moose and ice bergs - what more could a girl want?

  2. Canada and the Rocky Mountaineer - Mountains, glacial lakes, bears and an unexpected ghost tour!

  3. Inspirational China - Panda hugging = life affirming

  4. Pompeii, Sorrento and the Bay of Naples - Vesuvius (complete with JY Birthday cake), atmospheric Herculaneum and Capri (complete with totally naked man having a cigarette in his garden, utterly oblivious to the chair lift full of tourists passing over his head...)

  5. Eastern Canada (Page&Moy) - A horse drawn caleche ride around old Quebec in the rain, a hump back whale fluking less than 20 feet from the boat in Tadoussac and the rush of a Helicopter flight over Niagara (naturally, having an Adam Levine look-a-like as the pilot certainly added to that experience!)

Honourable mentions to:

  • Iceland - Extraordinary food, mystic Pingvellir and oh yes, met some geyser called.... Bob Gray...

  • The Rome city break - Gelato, the Sistine Chapel, Gelato, the Pantheon, Gelato and a first meeting with my now-dear JY buddy 'Whats-the-plan-Diane' (Hi Di !)

  • Tale of Two Cities - Dublin/Belfast - even if the TM committed the ultimate sin of pointing to Croke Park and announcing that it was the Aviva (cue a lot of tut-tutting from the rugby fans on the bus...)

  • America's Golden West- Jersey lillies growing on Alcatraz, Barry Manilow's eurobins in Palm Springs and a nutter busking on Santa Monica pier murdering Michael Jackson songs wearing nothing but a leopard skin banana hammock.

You see all sorts on a JY holiday - and I for one wouldn't have it any other way :D

All the best

Mandy

(Rapa Nui = T minus 10 to lift off!)

Ive done 17 JY tours so far, China, Thailand, Kenya, Mauritius, Cuba, Antigua, Malaysia, Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Vietnam, Hawaii, (Philippines, Borneo, Brunei, Cambodia with JY on Voyages of Discovery), Sri Lanka, Marrakech, Japan, India and Borneo and have just paid the Balance for New Zealand later this year. They have all been great holidays, but to choose my top 5

1 Christmas in Vietnam, Ho Chi Ming City on Christmas Day was amazing, then dodging the traffic crossing the road and despite the advice not to do so, a ride on the back of a moped through the traffic

2 Japan the variety of food to try and so many different flavours of ice cream, managed 6 different flavours on our last full day as we travelled to Kobe

3 Cambodia to see Ankor Wat and all the other sights

4 Borneo to see the orangutans in the wild as well as at the rehabilitation centre and such a great group to travel with

5 India again another great group and so many sights to see

As for 2017 I thought I had it all planned Mexico, Peru and Burma but now I have to wait to see if any of teh new trips jump higher up the list, am hoping for Taiwan and South Korea

Hi All

My top tours would be all of the long haul trips, but I am struggling to place them in order of merit!

My first trip to New Zealand via Hong Kong will always hold dear. Others include South Africa and Zambia, Canadian Rockies and Vancouver, Churchill and Toronto, Alaska, Hawaii and Cuba.

European trips include Iceland, Norwegian Fjords, Tromso, Sicily, Italian Dolomites and Croatia, Lake Bled, Walking in the Ahr Valley, Lille and Bruges, Berlin, Jersey and Austria.

Off to Switzerland at Christmas. Have plenty of ideas for 2017 but no firm plans or bookings yet.

Regards

Sylvia

Hi Bob,

What a brilliant idea for a new thread!

So here are my top 5 destinations, in no particular order.

1. USA National Parks. Amazing scenery, with each national park being different. Learn about the Wild West at Deadwood and the Indian Wars at Little Big Horn. Stand aghast at the vastness of the Grand Canyon and imagine John Wayne still riding across the plains at Monument Valley. Follow all that by experiencing the bright lights of Las Vegas. What's not to enjoy?

2. Peru. What can I say about a country with such incredible diversity of landscape? From the snow-capped high Andes, to volcanoes, deserts, ancient sites to gaze at in wonder and the hot, steamy Amazon jungle, Peru is a country of fabulous contrasts.

3. South Africa. Wonderful scenery and wildlife; South Africa surely has it all.

4. Russia. I've just returned from this wonderful tour. Moscow and St Petersburg could not be more different which only added to the enjoyment. Fabulous sights, good food and friendly people, this tour broadened my mind more than any other. If you want to learn more, please read my review from 2nd September departure.

5. Iceland. Fantastic scenery, the best food I've ever tasted and my first visit to 'The Frozen North'. Absolutely loved it!

Cheers for now

Mike
