I often see comments on this forum from people who are thinking about booking with JY but say they are concerned because they haven't been on holiday "on their own" before. The JY community is a very friendly one and there will usually be lots of reassurance from forum members who "went on their own to.... with JY and had a great time". However, surely the point of going with JY is that you are not holidaying on your own. The trips I've done have had at least 30 to 40 fellow guests, a tour guide and a coach driver. Surely going on your own couldn't be further from the truth?

I consider myself to be holidaying with a gang of like minded people. On all the trips I've done there's been a great atmosphere and a feeling of having fun with some mates. I certainly don't see it as going on my own, but it would seem that some do and I'm slightly puzzled by that.

What are your thoughts? Do you think of a JY holiday as a break with a group of friends?... or a holiday on your own?

I think you have made a very good point and you have made me think regarding how to answer this question.

I feel that I start the journey on my own, but the first thing we all have in common is we have picked the same trip so therefor straight away you have that in common with everybody if nothing else!!!. You can stay on your own, even if you are in a large group and I have had that happen to a lady that was on a tour, she had no interest what so ever to join in, she made it plain from the start she was on her OWN and was very happy to be like that, but she just wanted to have the safety of the group near her. So in answer to your question I would say I start of on my OWN but very soon I have become part of a group, sometimes you do seem to end up the whole tour with just one person who you buddy up with more, other times I spend each day with some one new to talk to and enjoy the holiday experience with. I have on my travel's with JY met two ladies who I have been on other tours with JY with, which is a holiday friend. To travel alone does not bother me in the least, I love to visit new countries and I also like to meet new people. So with JY I get the best of both world's..great holidays and a great mix of people.

I have done 6 tours and have another booked in May

Hi,

I think when people say 'on their own', probably been use to going on holiday for many years with just their partner, or with friends and it can be a very daunting experience to book a holiday to what is in essence with a group of strangers. I would not consider it as going away with friends, as do not know anyone who is going. But the fact you are all going for the same reason, you would hope there is at least that common thread and you can build upon it.

I have been called 'brave' for going and I can fully understand people's feelings of apprehension. But I love travel and am prepared to do it in a different way so I can continue to see the world in a safe way. I would not do it as a lone traveller, that is what I consider as brave!

Hi,

I agreed with Cindy and Debbie, people's perception of 'on your own' differs from person to person. I too have been called 'brave' but I always reply "how brave do you have to be to get on a plane or a coach?".

Admittedly, for some people, taking the first step can be daunting - but what is the alternative? Never to go anywhere because you no longer have a spouse or partner to go with? You would miss out on so much. So No, it's not 'brave', it's sensible because you are travelling in a safe environment (this is particularly important for women) and the Tour Managers are there to make your holiday enjoyable.

I have had some smashing holidays with Just You - on my own and with others. I am off to China in March - on my own (but not for long!). Then walking in Germany with 3 friends 'tagging along' in May. You can even get to go to places you might never have seen - the World is your oyster! So many choices, so little time!

So for me 'on my own' is a great way to travel - bring it on!

Be happy,

I think Debbie is completly right. I am going on my first holiday with JY to the Cilento Coast this May. It's something totally different for me. The last few years I have actually flown on my own, to Italy and 3 times to the U.S.A, but I have had friends to meet me at the other end. This is the first package holiday like this that I have done. I love Italy and hope to be able to associate with other travellers who feel the same way about it.

Julian,

Im thinking of cooking a JY holiday, but as a 22 year old boy i'm wondering if I would fit in with a group on these holidays?

I agree you may do some part of the holiday on your own i.e travelling from your local airport to the main departure point but once you check in with the Just You rep you are part of a bigger group and as such are 'looked after'. The best thing about Just You holidays,(this is my 7th) is that you can dip in and out of excursions and are not made to join in if all you want to do is read a book or explore on your own.

If you want to travel and are on your own for what ever reason Just You have got it about right.
