Hi Mo,

did you opt for June or September ?

Good tips on requirements. It’s definitely worth reading up about the trek part of this trip. As the saying goes ‘forewarned is fore armed’. Turning up in your shorts and tee shirt would not be a good choice !

I recommended a website in one of my earlier posts which seems to cover everything.

When I booked this trip over the phone I enquired about visas. I was told they weren’t needed, but I pointed out that at the back of the brochure it clearly indicates one is required at a cost of £85. It also states that a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required as part of the visa application process. The chap I dealt with said he would check this out and email me with an answer. No news as yet.

Perhaps you could please chase this up Vickie ?

In the meantime Mo, have a great trip to Borneo. I’m envious !

Hi Roger

From what I gather you can get Visa on arrival in Uganda. I personally can't have yellow fever as I have had stem cell transplant as part of my cancer treatmet, but as long as I have a doctor's note, then I would be allowed in! I have had yellow fever jab in 1969 when we emigrated from Kenya to India and I still have that certificate - apparently rules have changed and if you ever had a yellow fever jab then it is lifelong. I can cheat and use that certificate as proof! I checked with the Ugandan Embassy to make sure that I will be allowed in with a doctor's exemption note and they confirmed. Also, yellow fever jab is not advised for people over a certain age and they too would be allowed in as long as they have a doctor's note.

I have a long wait before I will be doing this trip but am already excited!

Hi Roger

So nice to be able to talk to some one else, no one on here doing Borneo with me!

I'm doing the June trip flying from Manchester.

I think I've searched every Uganda site now!. I paid J/Y the £85 visa fee and if I read it right the Yellow Fever certificate has to go with your visa application.

I read that they only take a group of eight people per viewing and porters seem to be an absolute must as they don't just carry your bag, they push and pull you through the jungle. I'll be taking my gardening gloves as recommended to help grab on to vines and branches as we climb.

Although I consider myself reasonably fit I'm looking at joining the gym for this as it does seem a wee bit challenging, I don't want to be the oldie lagging behind!.

Meantime looking forward to Borneo!

Mo 🙂

Hi Jaya and Mo,

thanks for the visa/yellow fever enlightenment !

Looks like I can look forward to another jab in the arm in the new year ...

Worth it though !

I think you’re quite right about having a porter Mo. I just hope they know where to push when it comes to it and their ‘encouragement stick’ isn’t too pointed ...

Groups of 8 sounds good. The only thing is, if the local silverback gets a bit miffed, we might have to sacrifice you Mo ...

I suspect your Borneo trip might prove a good indicator as to what to expect in June. Enjoy.

Hi Mo

I’m on the June trip as well, Looking forward to seeing plenty of wildlife

I hadn’t considered a porter but a only $20 it seems worthwhile so I can have my camera at the ready

I do the Borneo trip in 2016 it’s really good, one tip is take a multi plug extension lead to be able to get everything charged as I think at one lodge there were limited power sockets and it saves taking loads of travel adaptors

Have a great time, see you in june

Hello fellow Gorilla trekkers!

Apparently I am the 5th person to book, I couldn't resist!

I will be flying from Manchester but I think others so far are flying from Heathrow.

I was told by Victoria at Just You to wear Khaki or similar in the jungle and gloves to protect from mosquitoes.

Porters will be on hand and we pay them direct. Yellow fever inoculations required.

Any useful information over the coming months from my fellow companions would be most appreciated.

I have Borneo to look forward to next month, as others have said Just You is certainly addictive!

Mo :)

Hi Mo, I’m going to Borneo on November 11th and Gorilla next September are we both on the same dated trips? Julie

Hi Julie, we miss each other on both trips as I'm doing Borneo this month and the Uganda one in June. Enjoy your trip to Borneo, it's only 3 weeks away for me!

Hi Tim

Thanks for the tip on the plug, I nearly bought one in Boots yesterday but seemed a bit pricey, I'll have a look on Amazon. So looking forward to Borneo.

Can I ask where you are flying from in June?. Just hoping I'm not the only one flying from Manchester, think I might change my booking to Heathrow if I am!.

I am in Borneo at the moment waiting to go to the airport to fly to Singapore via Kuala Lumpur. Temp about 30 degrees . We did see loads of macaques ,some orangutans but no pigmy elephants.

The steam train at KK ran out of steam twice going uphill and again when trying to reverse to the previous station.Had to be rescued by a diesel .

Hi Peter

I hope you had a wonderful time in Borneo, I'm looking forward to going on the 21st of this month.

I've seen a lot of reviews on various web sites about the reliability of the steam train, may be its time to retire it!

Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Mo

I'm flying from Heathrow, but looks like everyone is on the same flight from Dubai.

I see from the website that both June and September are both sold out already, so a good thing we got in early
