JY .. you’ve only gone and done it again !

There I was, rough 2020 plans in place and then along comes Uganda.

Just like last year when my NZ plans were scuppered by the appearance of the wonderful Canada East to West expedition.

I guess that’s why we love the arrival of the new brochures  🙂

A Uganda trip culminating in a trek to mingle with Mountain gorillas looks awesome.

For what the tour entails I reckon June might be the best option (drier season). Preference wouldn’t have been for the inaugural trip (teething problems potential), but the late June trip goes from Ebbsfleet only. Heathrow so much more convenient for me.

I was hoping to do trips in February and November. I might have to include June as well now !

More piggy bank raiding required.

Eagerly awaiting the sound of the brochure hitting the mat before committing. Just in case something jumps out to surprise !

Great stuff JY.

Hi Roger,

Wonderful to hear you're pleased with the new tours! 😃 And may I add, a fantastic post title - we may have 'mist' a trick there! 😉

Do keep us in the loop about what trip you book next, and enjoy reading through your brochure when it arrives!

Many thanks,

Vickie

Hi Roger

I entirely agree with your comments. The Uganda trip seems very tempting . I'm off to see the orangutans in Borneo next week and now it looks like I shall have to give Just You even more money to go to Uganda to see the gorillas . I am also awaiting the new brochure to select next years trips.

Hi Vickie

This is definitely a trip that I would like to do.

I understand that the trekking in Bwindi to see the gorillas can be quite challenging. Will JY be including a personal porter for each person included in the price of this trip?

Regards

Janet

Uganda was on my list for next year so this is good timing for me as long as I can get the dates booked off work

Hi Peter,

have a great trip to see the orangutans. Borneo very much on my ever expanding wish list. Hopefully I’ll get there one day, but JY keep enticing me elsewhere !

In the meantime I’ll have to start a fitness campaign .. the gorilla treks look quite demanding ..

Happy trails,

Roger

Hi Janet,

I'm glad to see you that are interested in our new tour :)

Regarding the trek in Bwindi, we do not include a personal porter; however you will only need a day pack for the trek 🙂

Thanks,

Jamie

Hi Janet,

You may not be totally surprised to hear I’ve done a fair bit of research into this trip already !

Re the porters on the gorilla trek it suggests a US$10 fee gets you your own porter for the day. Given what could be in store that seems very good value to me especially as you could be in the jungle for a few hours.

There is some good advice available. ‘Divergenttravelers.com’ has some very useful tips in their ‘preparation guide for gorilla trekking in africa’ Section. Worth a look.

Hope that helps.

I get the impression this tour is going to be the ‘hot ticket’ in 2020 and with a max of 15 people per trip an early sign up might be advisable ..

Hi

This Uganda tour looks amazing even without seeing the gorillas and chimps which are obviously the icing on the cake.

Jamie

From research about gorilla trekking that I had previously done I understood that you could pay for a porter when you get there. The porter will carry your rucksack/daybag and help you on the trek if need be. When I did the research a couple of years ago I was told the cost of a porter for the day was about 20 USD-obviously more now.

I would love to do this tour even if I didn't manage the trekking.

Peter

Hope you enjoy Borneo and see plenty of wildlife. Jaya is thinking about Uganda for 2021 and going with Dave and me, should it be offered in 2021.

I would prefer to go next year in June, as someone else has written it is drier which also means it is less slippy underfoot. a year earlier at my age makes sense.

Might see you at Destinations again!

Kind Regards

Di

Hi Tim,

I’ve got a ‘provisional’ booking for June.

I tried booking online and was advised a JY representative would phone me regarding my disclosed ‘medical conditions’, but that they would be holding a place for me in the meantime ..

I was told to expect a call ‘shortly’ on Monday .. still not heard.

Brochure hasn’t landed yet, so will wait for that before chasing things up.

Assuming I’m allowed on the June trip I’ll look forward to catching up with you then and hearing all about Chile/Patagonia !

South Africa memories still fresh ...

Cheers,

Roger

Hi Roger

Thanks very much for this very useful info.

As I work and am not able to book anything departing after March until at least January I am not sure I will even be able to get on one of these trips given that places will go incredibly quickly but will live in hope. Hopefully there will be sufficient porters for all when the time comes.

Thanks again

Janet

Hi Vickie (and Jamie),

as with most things in life there are pluses and minuses ...

My brochure arrived yesterday. I had been waiting several months for arrival day as I was eager to sign up for an awesome, but numbers limited trip, and didn’t want to miss out (sold out very quickly this year).

Unfortunately it soon became apparent that Antarctica had been removed from the menu. I can’t begin to tell you what a disappointment that was.

This years trip over the Xmas period holds no appeal sadly. The November one was what I was after.

Never mind. Worse things happen at sea, as they say.

Enough of the negative ! On the positive side I’m really excited to have signed up for Uganda in June.

Tim, look forward to seeing you in the lounge in June. Don’t work too late !

Now for a rethink on Feb and Nov ...

I will be booking this trip for 2021 as next year is all booked. Hopefully JY will not rest the trip for a few years. I was already looking at other Tour companies for this trip so am glad JY has included it in the new brochure. Also hope the price do not go up by much Would have booked for 2021 if the dates were in the brochure - I plan a lot in advance!

Tim,

what’s that expression ? ‘It’s a small world’ .. how appropriate !

Didn’t realise you had taken in Namibia. That was my provisional Feb trip, but according to the new brochure it’s not guaranteed. Also, Feb supposedly not the best time to visit.

Any thoughts ?

I think February is wetter and hotter and humid, July to September is cooler and by October its warming up again, the days were warm everywhere, but in the south it was cold in the evenings and early morning (we were in several layers to keep warm), as it is drier then you see lots of animals at the watering holes.  The big difference for me was seeing various animals together at the watering holes although there did seem a fairly ordered hierachy and the Ostriches keeping a lookout.

The food was good with plenty of things to try.

Hello fellow Gorilla trekkers!

Apparently I am the 5th person to book, I couldn't resist!

I will be flying from Manchester but I think others so far are flying from Heathrow.

I was told by Victoria at Just You to wear Khaki or similar in the jungle and gloves to protect from mosquitoes.

Porters will be on hand and we pay them direct. Yellow fever inoculations required.

Any useful information over the coming months from my fellow companions would be most appreciated.

I have Borneo to look forward to next month, as others have said Just You is certainly addictive!

Mo 🙂
