Unfortunately, I had to cancel the South African Explorer holiday last year, just the day before departure, due to a very nasty bug.

I have re-booked for this year, departng on 30th September, but am wavering a bit now as so long ago when first booked, and wondered if there are any reviews or advice on do's and dont's - need a bit of encouragement now, as impetus worn off a tad!

Regards

Roslyn

Hi Roslyn,

I'm sorry to hear that you had to cancel last year but pleased to hear to have re-booked.

I have no doubt that the Just You Community members will provide plenty of support and encouragement before you travel (and after too). In the meantime, let me provide you with some information about your travelling companions and point you in the direction of what others have shared with the community....

I can tell you that your departure is fully booked - There are 11 travellers who are on the main tour only and 19 of your staying for the Victoria Falls add-on with ages from early-fifties to early-seventies. The majority of you are women but there are 7 men booked as well.

A few threads on the community that you may want to read - (these have been posted by our members so there is no "marketing spin" on them)

Hi Roslyn,

The last link Julia put up was to my review of this holiday that I took in Sept 2011. The itinerary has changed a little since then, but I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. I've done several holidays and JY tours since then but it still ranks as the best holiday I've ever had - totally magical!

Hope you have a wonderful holiday,

Bob

Whatever you do, DO NOT CANCEL THIS HOLIDAY. I was on the one you sadly had to cancel - it was the most incredible trip I've been on (and I've done a few over the last ten years!). The hotels are great, each has their own character rather than generic chains, the food is good, the scenery incredible and the animals fantastic. We spent half an hour with a lioness and three cubs within a few feet of the jeep, had coffee alongside a crocodile, stood between the front legs of an elephant, stood on the edge of Victoria Falls, cuddled Cheetah and took them for a walk - I could go on and on and on.

It is quite normal to feel a bit apprehensive before the holiday, even the old hands get butterflies, but once you've found someone else at the airport, you realise that everyone is in the same boat and you start to enjoy yourself.

Hopefully someone else going on your trip will post soon, but please don't be put off if no-one does. Have a read through some of the old posts which so many people have made raving about this trip to boost your courage. We can't all be wrong!!!

Hi just read the numbers who are taking this holiday, is that right that 11 people are on the main holiday and 19 are on the Zambia add on, if that's correct and I'm not being thick  there are 8 people who are just doing the Zambia add on. I apologise in advance if I'm not reading it right !!

Hi Kerry,

Sometimes I forget how I present the tour breakdowns don't always make sense (sorry)

So, in total there are 30 travellers - 11 of those are only flying out to take the main tour, 19 of them are taking the main tour and then staying on to visit Zambia.

Hope that makes a little more sense.

Kindest regards,

Julia
