Hi Olly,

I'm new to JY and although nervous I am thinking of going to SA in Sept. I 'm a little worried regarding the reputation of crime in SA but note that all the testimonies are very positive and it sounds a most wonderful trip. Can you please advise if there is an extra cost to the overnight stay in Johannesburg before the add-on trip and if so how much would that be. Also can you give me a rough estimate of the prices of the 4 optional tours and do they include any meals. Thank you.

Regards, Yvonne

Hi Yvonne

A Just You holiday is the perfect way to see South Africa. You will be with a large group and have a tour manager to look after you, so you don't need to worry about anything. Of course you should be careful with your belongings and that sort of thing, but that would be true anywhere you go. I'm sure you will have a fantastic time.

The Johannesburg night is included in the holiday price.

I've copied all the optional excursion prices for you below. None include meals as far as I can see but check your final information letter for more details - this is sent out around 2 weeks before you travel.

Kind regards,

Olly, your editor

Hi I was on the tour last Sept/Oct and as you might have seen from my testamonial, it was brilliant! The optional excursions on the whole are fantastic, I didn't do the trip around the bay at Cape Town, but those who did said it was a bit disappointing but I reckon it depends what time of year you do it, as the spectacular sunset didn't materialise. It did, however, on the Zambezi evening cruise on the add-on - it was the most spectacular sunset I've ever seen and I must have taken about 100 photos! The food was great there too. A meal is included in the following excursions:

Kruger Full Day Game Drive (packed breakfast)

Zambia add on - Royal Livingstone Express (in resort only) £121 - five course spectacular dinner

Zambia add on - Livingstone Island (in resort only) £86 - very tasty meal just beside the Falls

Zambia add on - Chobe Game Drive (in resort only) £116 - buffet lunch

Have an amazing holiday!

Hi Yvonne

I've booked this trip with the add-on at the end of September. It would be great if you decide to come. As Bob says the trip has had brilliant reviews and I certainly plan on doing all the optional excursions. I went to Australia with JY last October with a great group and had an amazing time so I have no doubt this trip will also be fab. It's natural to feel nervous when thinking about taking the plunge but everyone is in the same situation and looking to have a good holiday. As regards to safety - you will never be on your own during the holiday unless you want to be. There will always be someone wanting to do the same thing as you and the Tour Manager is there to make sure no one gets left out.

I've done this trip too with the add on. The optional Livingstone Express included a 5 course meal. The Elephant Safari in Zambia was the highlight of the trip for me. I also did the tour of the township in Knysna which included a visit to the local school. If you go, please take some paper and pencils/pens, always much appreciated.

I opted to go to Robben Island instead of the Winelands, I was able to book Robben Island online.

There was a safe in every hotel room where we stayed. Felt very safe a part of a large group and very well looked after. Just don't go wandering off on your own.

You'll have a wonderful time.

Hey,

I've been looking at taking the South African trip end of september too but unfortunately can't get the time off work for the Victoria Falls add-on. But I was sold on just the regular trip. It looks wicked and although I've never really travelled anywhere like Africa, for that length of time by myself, just seeing how friendly and encouraging everyone is has made up my mind for me!

As soon as I get the ok from my boss I'm there! I'm sure you'll have a blast. The Elephant exeprience thingy sounds awesome!
