I'm preparing for my Vietnam and Cambodia holiday and have had my jabs, but have been unable to get advice on whether Malaria tablets are required.

As far as I can see from the following maps, all of the places visited on this tour seem to be in the "low to no risk" areas:

http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/asia- (east)/vietnam/vietnam-malaria-map.aspx

http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/asia- (east)/cambodia/cambodia-malaria-map.aspx

However, it looks like travelling from Vietnam to Cambodia may involve crossing a "high risk" area. Is that an over-land transit? Would antimalarials be a good idea for that part of the holiday (or any other part)?

Good morning,

thanks for getting in touch, I fully appreciate your question but I am unable to offer any advice on this, you really have to follow the advice of your GP, if you provide your GP with the itinerary of your tour -

http://www.justyou.co.uk/destinations/asia/southeastern-asia/discover-vietnam/angkor-wat-phnom-penh-and-mekong-river-add-on/accommodation-and-itinerary/

Then he/she will be able to advise you, I'm sorry I can't be more help,

Kindest,

Ben

Thanks, that's exactly what I did. The problem is that the tour itinerary doesn't make it clear how you get from Vietnam to Cambodia and whether it involves over-land travel through a high risk area. My GP, who only looks up the information on www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk anyway, won't give me any advice without more information.

I'll open this up to the rest of the forum. To anyone who has been on this holiday before - how did you get from Vietnam to Cambodia? Plane, coach or boat? Did you take antimalarials for any part of the tour?

Hi, thanks for your reply. I'm probably going to just rely on insect repellent too, as it doesn't look like the tour goes to any high risk areas, but I'm still looking into it.

I'd still be interested to hear about the journey from Vietnam to Cambodia from anyone who knows.
