Hi Bob

Yes please. Would like to see the bridge camera. I do not like carrying big ones and also like simple ones so hope it is not too big. I will look for one when we are back from the Borneo trip.

I bought a bridge camere, Panasonic, to use in South Africa. I got some great shots on the Safaris. The drawback is the bulk and weight, although it's only half the weight of the dlsr I would really like. In sunny conditions a viewfinder is a must. I have just found that Panasonic have a new high spec compact camera which has a viewfinder. I am very tempted......

Hi Sarah

Thanks for this information. I will have to look at the new Panasonic compact camera. Hopefully it will be lighter as I really do not want to carry a heavy camera on holidays.

Hi Jaya,

I've had a Panasonic Lumix bridge camera for a few years now - it's starting to show it's age with only an 18x zoom but it takes good quality photos. My camera gives you the option of viewing the picture on the rear screen or through the viewfinder; you simply press a button to swap between one option and the other. This feature should be on most modern bridge cameras. It's neither large nor heavy and is easy to operate.

So, I think a bridge camera would be the best option for you; with a large zoom they give you more flexibility in photographic terms than a simple compact (although these days there's nothing wrong with compacts) whilst not having the increased weight and possible complexity of a DSLR.

Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks for our Borneo holiday.

Cheers

Hi Mike

Will definitely have a look at the Panasonic bridge camera either before the Borneo trip (if I get time) or after coming back. Perhaps it is a good idea for me to get one as am doing South Africa and Zambia in September and am planning to do Costa Rica and Nicaragua in March next year. Hopefully will get great shots!

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

I did buy the camera. Panasonic TZ 80 I'm in Vietnam at the moment and so glad I'm not lugging the bridge camera around in the heat. Compact is doing very well.

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I posted the first thread and logged on. And it's great to return to the community and find my fellow travel companions posting! I'm excited about the trip and reading some of your threads, very glad that some of you are into photography. In a previous life, I used to be a wedding photographer and although I no longer follow the camera stuff, taking photographs is a big part of my holiday! In fact, I'm just about to order a spare battery, uv filter and case for my new camera.

On a separate note, on the flight to Kuala Lumpur on the A380 (I was told that was the plane), there's an upstairs economy. Does anyone know if our seats are booked in advance or when we get to the airport?

Anyway, hello everyone, February will soon come around after we (hopefully) see some sunshine here.

Hi JudyC

The seat are pre-booked but if you ask JY they will try to get you seats upstairs.  I flew out this way and it was certainly more roomy and quieter.  On the way back no seats were available but because it was overnight it was pretty quiet anyway and as I had an aisle seat it was OK

I too have just booked this trip. Never been to the Indo China or the far east so am really looking forward to it and meeting you all. I've managed Cuba Italy and India with JY so am ever-so-gradually moving east. Maybe China after this trip. :shy:

Hi Judy

I am booked to go on the Burma trip in February.  It is my first trip with JY.  Happy to meet at Heathrow.  Will definitely relieve my travel stress!

Best wishes

Hi Louise

There are two dates for Burma in February now. When Judy first posted there was only the one date on 13th but it sold out so quickly JY added new dates. I think I am right in saying Judy is doing the 13th trip and you are on the following trip so please don't look out for her in the lounge!

I know quite a few people who have done this trip and every one of them have raved about it so you have definitely picked a good one to start with!

Hi Mods

Any sign of a Tour Manager for the 13th Feb departure yet?

Hello,

I can recommend the Panasonic Lumix which has a 30X zoom, yet is compact enough to hang on a belt. It gives high quality pictures (on highest setting), good enough to use a picture from last year's JY holiday picture of Copacabana Beach as the screen saver on my 24" monitor.

I didn't realise it was the A380 plane. I flew on one of the early ones to Australia and it was so roomy and quiet.

See you on 27th!

Hi Sue

I am going to take $300 in cash with my ATM card as a back up. I haven't booked the optional excursion yet, I will decide when we get there. Five weeks today - very excited!

Hello Sue and Sally

I am also taking about $300 in cash. Hopefully this will be enough to last the 12 days, most meals are included so it shouldn't be a problem. Not long now so I will see you all soon.

Hi Judy.,

I'm sorry that I won't be with you all on what looks a great group for 13th Feb. I'm on the added 27th Feb flight two weeks later. JY jave upped the prices considerably I see as well. I'll be on the add-on as well. The A380 sounds a great plane to travel a long distance.
