Is anyone going on a Christmas break (2016) in the UK, and if so, where to? I was thinking of booking one of them but am not sure which one. I would be flying in from Amsterdam. They all look interesting but it would be nice to go somewhere where there are a lot of others going to of course.

IHi Sylvia,

I wish I read your post before my Mykonos & Santorini trip, I wouldn't have been so apprehensive about my first single holiday. Everything you posted was so true, and no one should be concerned about the solo aspect of these tours. I'm hooked, and have been searching JY and others for my next adventure.

Warm Regards

John

Let me know how India goes, I fancy the Kerala trip, but I've fallen in love with Greece again so maybe Island hopping is a possibility.

Hello John,

I'm glad you enjoyed your first holiday, and found my post to be right.  However, you have got the wrong Sylvia regarding India.  Have never been there and have no intention of going.  That does not prevent me from saying

Happy Travelling!

Sylvia

Two years ago I was in the same position as many of you, having lost my husband in February 2012.  A had never travelled alone, or even for that matter lived alone.  I am in my mid-70's.  I found JY and other singles holiday companies through an internet search and booked my first holiday.

I was so scared a few days before departure that I almost asked my doctor to sign me off sick so that I did not have to go and claim on the insurance!  Sense prevailed because I really knew that she wouldn't do it.

You are really "on your own" until you get to the departure airport.  Unless of course you have someone to travel with you, or take you to the airport.  From there on you will have as much or as little company as you wish.

Fellow travellers are there for the same reason you are - it is somewhere they want to visit.  Whether it is for the sights, architecture, history, food, culture, you have that in common at check-in.

I am so glad that I didn't call off that first holiday to France which was in May,  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The age range, which was from about mid 30's to 80 really didn't matter, in fact I booked another for September to Calabria and thoroughly enjoyed that as well.

I have two holidays booked this year - one of them with JY.

In my limited experience tour managers have been fantastic.  The second hotel was far and away better than the first, but the first was very, very good.

Organisation from departure airport - resort(s) - return airport is smooth.  Everything is done for you.

All you have to do is choose - read any reviews on the forum that you can find - book - pay - turn up - ENJOY!!

If anyone wants to contact me "off forum" JY have my email address.

Happy travelling.

Sylvia

Haven't taken the plunge yet thinking about the Discover Sicily trip has anyone done this one?

Hello to anyone who is reading the messages.

Nearly three years since I lost my husband and I may be ready now to go on a singles holiday.

I have to admit, I was almost at the stage of begging people to go on holiday with me. This is an embarrassing memory. I am now 70 but am reassured that I won't be treated like an 'oldie' which I most definitely am not.

I'm browsing happily through the brochures and will let you all know which one I choose. The obvious thing to like about JustYou is the clarity of the pricing rather than having to grovel through pages on other websites only to find that there ARE single supplements.

Happy hunting,everyone.

Hi Issy

Welcome to JY. It is hard I know when you lose your husband particularly if you have always enjoyed holidays together.

I was so pleased to discover Just You as I missed my holidays after my husband died. I have been on four holidays with them to date and enjoyed them all.

I hope that wherever you choose for your holiday you have a wonderful time.

Kind regards

Ange

Hello

I have been on the Lille/Bruges tour but mine was the battlefields tour you might perhaps be on the other tour they do....

You will be fine and have a great time I am sure, my first tour I went to keep my mother in law company in 2006 and have since travelled the world with JY  she has only gone on 1 tour, you never know your son might carry on travelling....

I'm still plucking up courage to book. When you lose your partner, you also lose a lot of self confidence but your messages are very encouraging I felt that at 70 years of age I would be too old but apparently not !

You are most definitely not to old...I might be a younger one 58 but I have been out walked by much older...give a tour a go, if you come back and never go again at least you tried...I have been on 10 tours all great fun fantastic sights to see and great people to spend time with..

Hi Lorraine (and Issy),

I'm also 46 and have been travelling with JY for the last 7 years - I've now done 13 tours with them and have 3 more booked so you could say I'm addicted!  Deciding to travel with JY is the best decision I have made for many years and I can honestly say it has changed my life - I have travelled all over the world with them and have loved every single holiday.  Despite all my travels, I still get nervous before every holiday and I find that any worries disappear once I meet the rest of the group - I relax and just enjoy it all! Please do go for it!

All the best,

Bob

Love this post - thanks Sylvia.  I am going on my first JY hol in May this year minus my 4 year old (she is with her Dad so all good and he and I have not been together for a long time - it was something I wanted to do before she starts school) but I am a little apprehensive.  Any tips from anyone would be lovely.

Thanks for your encouraging review. I'm slightly hesitant about my first holiday with JY in June - walking the Camino de Santiago. I've been unable to make contact with others who are on the trip, so that concerns me. But your comments plus others make me feel a bit more confident.

I'm new to this too and have booked the time off at work to go on the Iceland trip in November but havnt had the courage to actually book the trip itself! I guess its normal to feel a little apprehensive, nice to read so many lovely reviews and be reassured.

Have fun

Hi Jackie 100

You have booked time off from work so what's stopping you booking the Iceland trip? Put your nerves aside, take the plunge and just go ahead and book the trip. You have nothing to lose and have something to look forward to. Of course, it is not unusual to feel apprehensive but life is too short to worry about such little things. Once you have taken the first step you will want to book another trip on your return. Travelling with Just You is addictive and there are so many fantastic places to see in this world. If only I had lots and lots of money - I would be travelling all the time!

Best wishes

Jaya

I have just booked my first solo holiday for September this year and it's good to have such reassurance from someone else, as it is such a big step and I am nervous, but still looking forward to it.
