In 2012 I was in the same position as many of you, having lost my husband in February 2012.  I had never travelled alone, or even for that matter lived alone.  I found singles holiday companies through an internet search and booked my first holiday.

I was so scared a few days before departure that I almost asked my doctor to sign me off sick so that I did not have to go and claim on the insurance!  Sense prevailed because I really knew that she wouldn't do it.

You are really "on your own" until you get to the departure airport.  Unless of course you have someone to travel with you, or take you to the airport.  From there on you will have as much or as little company as you wish.

Fellow travellers are there for the same reason you are - it is somewhere they want to visit.  Whether it is for the sights, architecture, history, food, culture, you have that in common at check-in.

I am so glad that I didn't call off that first holiday to France which was in May,  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The age range, which was from about mid 30's to 80 really didn't matter.  I have two holidays booked this year - one of them with JY.

In my limited experience tour managers have been fantastic.  The second hotel was far and away better than the first, but the first was good.

Organisation from departure airport - resort(s) - return airport is smooth.  Everything is done for you.

All you have to do is choose - read any reviews on the forum that you can find - book - pay - turn up - ENJOY!!

Hello Sylvia,

I agree with Cindy- they should roll out this for every Newbie and it would save a lot of heartache when they know how great the Company is :)

Sylvia,

How kind and thoughtful of you to write such a review. It will reassure "newbies" who are hesitating, for whatever reasons, about taking the plunge.

Good for you and keep enjoying your JY holidays.

Welcome to the world of JY ..I went on the HKG and NZ tour in January 2012 so if you have any question, just ask away and I will try and help you, I am sure I put a review up about the tour so have a look on the review section and see what was said.

Happy travelling

Hi Julie

You certainly have picked a great destination for your first Just You trip. I did the Andalucia trip in September 2010 and can confirm that this is a great trip. Mijas is beautiful. You are in for a treat. I would say just go and enjoy every minute of it.

Hello Sylvia, I found your words helpful and reassuring.

I'm new to Just you and to the Just you community. I have booked my first trip travelling in March on the Amazing Australia tour. If there are others travelling on this trip it would be good to hear from you.

Thank you

I have two holidays booked this year - though only one with JY, simply because JY do not go where I want to for the other trip.

Hi just to say that I was on JY's New Year Andalucía holiday, a newbie following my wife unexpectedly leaving me early in 2013 for better things. I travel a lot on my own on business and am very used to it but was strangely nervous about joining up with the group. In the departure gate another man in the party noticed the label on my luggage and kindly came up to me and all was ok from there on, I will be ever grateful to Bob. It was huge fun on the plane spotting fellow "JY ers" and having a chat and a laugh and by the time we got to Malaga I think there were some on plane who were not with JY who wished they were!

To me it was a heartening and warming experience to witness twenty five lovely people come together with no other agenda than to have a great time together and it ended up being one of the happiest and most life-affirming weeks I have ever had. And after a difficult year it convinced me that there is a world out there, a life to be lived and that being single has plenty going for it.

Just like to add my thanks Sylvia on your reassuring post. The weeks this year are already flashing past and my first trip alone at the end of March with JY is not far over the horizon. I admit to being a little apprehensive so your words have really eased my anxiety somewhat.

Many thanks again.

Well done Ian on taking that first step. Always difficult. Glad you had a great time. I have now completed 4 trips and they have been so much fun. I have Route 61 booked for November- I would book more but my job finishes next week due to redundancy. Need to look for another job now 😞 Shall get back on track :)

Message really made me feel more courageous: I too lost my husband nearly 2 years and, although I had travelled quite a bit when I was young...Woodstock in '69!.. I've pondered quite a bit. BUT there's good opportunities out there and the staff were very helpful. All being well - and dog looked after - I'm thinking of going to Apulia in September. Has anyone any thoughts or advice?

Many thanks Elspeth :

Hi Elspeth,
