Hi folks

I've just received my brochures today, and have browsed the website, and I'm still not sure.

My husband died last year, so I'm taking the first steps on my own. I booked two holidays with a rival company, and felt so let down. The holiday itself was fine, I got on well with the other guests, the host was great -- but the travel arrangements were shambolic to say the least.

I was one of the oldest on the holiday, but I'm fit, and that wasn't a problem.

I've cancelled the second holiday, and am now thinking of trying Just You. Bur a) most European holidays seem to be booked up, and I haven't the confidence for long-haul yet, and b) I'm scared.

Help!

Well hello to you and welcome to the world of JY!!!!. I am sorry that you were let down by the other company,.

Can I just say that in the last 5 years I have done 7 JY holiday 4 lonh haul and 3 short haul, and I have New Zealand booked for next year. I have never had a problem with JY travel arrangements, (other than one bad plane journey but that was due to adverse weather conditions,), in fact it's one of the reasons I use JY thing's run very smoothley from start to finish. So please do not worry about that side of things. The first trip I went on was long haul to USA so don't let that put you off, if there is one you fancy try and go for it. I am sure you will have a great time.

Now as for 😎 I'm scared what are you scared of, if you tell us maybe we can help you not to be scared.

Hi Skye, welcome to the forum :)

I really enjoy short break European coach trips and I've taken 5 over the last few years with JY and Travelsphere (JY's sister company). I can't speak for the airline holidays but the coach breaks have always been well organised, both pre-trip and during the trip itself.

Unfortunately this isn't the best time of year to book but I understand that next years holidays will be out about September.

Hi Skye,

And welcome to JY. Oh dear, my heart goes out to you. I know what you must be feeling and am so sorry that your first holiday as a single was not all you hoped it would be. My first was with Just You (and I honestly cannot remember how I got to hear of JY) so I was lucky. I have not looked back since.

Ok -

a) don't be scared to do a long-haul first - there really is no need to worry. I have done Russia and China and both have been amazing. Your tour manager will take really good care of you and make sure you don't feel left out. It is so safe for women (which is really important) - men too I hasten to add.

b) don't be scared to take that first step - we have all done it - and never looked back. Don't let that one bad experience affect you. There are so many wonderful places for you to see. So pick something you really fancy and go for it!!!

I wish you a really wonderful holiday. I would be interested to know what you chose.

Be happy,

Best wishes,

Lesley

PS: I am off to Sorrento for my birthday in Sept (my 3rd JY trip this year)

Hello Skye

If it is any consolation to you I think that all first timers are apprehensive, I wouldnt say scared. My wife died 2 years ago and it has taken me that time to get the courage to book. Albeit I am only going on a Discovery week-end to Leeds in August to see how it works out. If all goes well I will book China next year and I am 72.

Take the plunge and remember you will not be alone because there will be other first timers on whatever trip you choose.

Hi Skye,

I've just returned from my 6th JY holiday (S.Africa & Zambia) and they have all been brilliant and I've met some really nice people. The organisation is always superb and JY really look after you (I don't work for them by the way!). Age ranges tend to be between 30-80, with an average of about 55, and more women than men. I've made some really good friends on these holidays. Just choose a holiday that you fancy - even if it is a few months away - and book it. You won't regret it! I'm 61 by the way!

Good Luck!

Good luck.

Unless you are 90 you wont be the eldest on a JY holiday! Ages are from 30 to 80 plus usually. Everyone was a first-timer once so you will be fine. Find somewhere you like and go for it you wont regret it.

Hello

Just joined the Community and saw your message.

I have been on my own since last summer and bravely booked the Thailand holiday in September on the recommendation of 2 trusted friends who have been on Just You holidays. Must admit I am also a bit scared but I'm just going to dive straight in as I have wanted to go to Thailand for ever!.

The trip looks amazing with great hotels and my friends are impressed with the organisation.

Good luck! And if anyone else has conquered their initial fears, it would be good to hear from you.

I've done about 10 JY holidays and they have been excellent.

Age ranges have been between late twenties to late seventies (I'm 42) - so don't worry about age - it hasn't mattered on the JY holidays. Women have always outnumbered the men. Small group number has been 13 largest has been 40.

I've done a few of the long haul flight holidays - length of flights a pain, but the holidays have been worth it.

The travel arrangements have been excellent - wether it's a coach for whole holiday or using internal flights/train journey.

So i would say go for it. I hope to meet lots of new friends and you will to. All the best for your next trip Shelly 1

I went on my first JY holiday to South Africa last year and loved every minute of it. The tour rep & guides were fantastic and every aspect of the holiday was well thought through and well organised. I have booked to go to NZ this year and can't wait!!

Hi

Sorry you had such a negative experience with another company. I did my first JU holiday last year. I did the Wonders of China trip. It was a great experience and good value for money. The group ranged in age from early 30s to early 80s. Very well organised and travel was fine. Going to west coast of USA this year-Sept 19th-and am really looking forward to it.

Hope this helps

Hi

i went on my first holiday with Just you last year to Andalucia. Our return coincided with the Spanish national strike. Our tour manager made all the alternative arrangements with the help of head office and kept us all informed. Many people came from regional airports and all onward arrangements from London were put in place. We were all bussed to Madrid and everything was taken care of, I cannot praise them enough. Taxis and trains and coaches for oneward travel for everybody was all explained and put into place. This year I'm going to Kenya and looking forward to that very much.Don't worry about your age many people are in their 70's & 80's and everyone is very friendly and helpful.I'm sure you will find something for this year. Have you looked at the all inclusives? I was also very scared but oh so glad I took the plunge!

The best of Luck

Thank you so much everyone for the welcomes, and all the helpful info. It's good to know how many people will be on a tour, and the average. I'm not worried about it being mainly women, in fact the holiday I've just had was just nine women, and that was fine. I'm not looking for a partner.

To be honest, I don't know what I'm scared of -- just feeling let down, I suppose. I don't want to travel on my own, and I don't want all my options to fizzle out! To be honest, I haven't logged on for a while, in case no-one had replied!

OK, just a confidence collapse, I'm not usually such a wimp.

Now I'm going to browse the web and see what's available still -- and BOOK IT!!!!!

Thanks again.

Hi Skye, I now exactly how you feel. My husband died suddenly 7 months ago aged 55 and I am trying to pluck up the courage to book a JY holiday for the back end of the year but I am also very worried about travelling alone.

Hello,

I joined JY last week and have booked a discovery weekend in September to Nottingham, only an hour away from home for me, but really looking forward to it. I also felt too scared to go further at the moment but I'm sure when I do go next year I will love it. Just bite the bullet and do it , we all deserve a bigger life than the ones we have and I'm sure your confidence will soar.

Vicki.
