Thanks Jean and Dawn for replying. I'm so looking forward to the trip but was checking the weather for Mombasa and it's raining!!!! Hope it improves in the next few weeks! I'm taking half and half money (Kenyan and US dollars) but all in cash.

Baggage wise I'm not taking too much just in case I need to bring lots back with me!!!! lol

Can't wait to meet up with you all.

Hi Dawn

Thanks for the tip about the tablets.

I have my script. Will price it up tomorrow, going to Bolton, no Sainsbury's in Chorley.

Booked my flight to London last night, will arrive at 2.30 pm . Plenty time, I hope to claim my bags and get to check in for Kenya.

Glad I came on message board, at least I have three names to look out for. Don't feel quite as alone. 🙂

Hi fellow travellers, just to say ditto to some things, I am taking trainer type shoes and socks for safari, I dont think we will be doing too much walking ( more running if those lions take a fancy). also will be taking kenyan shilling and us dollars in cash, maybe a few pounds stirling aswell.

I think I'm being dropped at heathrow mid morning ish as parents have to get back for my kids coming out of school, so if any of you are getting there early and want to meet up before check in that would be good. ( not sure what time we'd be able to check in)

Dawn

p.s wondering if the plane has a trailer for all my shoes lol.

Hi Dawn and Moyra

I am catching a plane at Manchester at 13.25 hours to arrive at Heathrow at 14.30 hours. Not as early as you two, but in plenty of time for check in.

I assume this will be about 1700 hours, 3 hours before flight time.

If I'm not too late to join you both for a coffee I will, if that's ok.

Doing the same with the money, schillings, sterling and dollars. Can't decide if to take dollars cash or travellers cheques.

Will be glad when all sorted and can relax.

Never had so much to sort out for a holiday before!

Think I might re think safari bag contents, can't decide on which clothes to take and which to leave at home. Don't want too much or too little.

Too much to hope for a "next" at the lodge I suppose :-)

Not long now two weeks today will be my last working day !!!!! OMG

Hi ladies. First congrats to the new Grandma. I'm going on this trip but not until 28th October. First time on my own so slightly nervous and wishing I was going with you guys -been reading your messages and having a chuckle. I'm already planning my packing. Started with 3 suitcases (like to travel light!!) but now I know I don't need matching shoes & bags, ball gowns, etc think I've got it down to one. I fancy doing the balloon ride, girl on phone said you land and have breakfast - or was that you ARE breakfast :0( Anyway think I'll take the chance. Well, better go but so looking forward to hearing your reports when you get back - I'm sure you'll have a 'ball' - even if its in shorts, t-shirts & trainers!! Have a safe flight etc. Janet ps been told to watch out for the mozzies

Hi Dawn

Congratulations on becoming a grandma. Will you need to pack an extra suitcase with all the new baby photo's you will be taking 🙂.

Had a re think about my clothes, and changed several items. Trying to keep it to a minimum, but, failing spectacularly,

Jean

I am sure we will post our safari expolits on the message board, leaving out the embarrasing bits !!!!!

Not heard about the balloon ride, will have to look into it when I arrive.

Not sure I want to BE breakfast though. unless kenyan lions are vegetarians then landing in the bush will be ok.

Just thought we could end up being a "bush tucker trial" Ha Ha.

Shame you not on our date, but, I am sure the October crew will be fine.

Hello Dawn Moyra and Jean

Looks like me jean and moyra all arrive at Heathrow one after the other from one'ish on wards.

I think I land at T5 , I assume Kenya flight at T4 , not had any flight details from JY, and when I check on their web site I was too early for the flight details.

Will check later today maybe, and see if they are up yet.

We might have time for the coffee still, if we are not running from terminal to terminal !! :-)

Hi All

I think it would be great if we all meet up before check-in - let the party begin!!! Congrats to Grandma.

We'll need to swap phones numbers.

I'm only taking one soft sided bag for the whole trip - unless I hear otherwise from JustYou people - I wouldn't know what to leave behind - "just in case"!!!

Anyway - only 13 sleeps to go (not that I'm excited or anything!!!)

Thanks to all for the congrats, mother and baby doing great. will try and bring photos if theres any room in my case which I have filled and emptied to many times to count and I still dont have it right.

I think it will be really good if we can all meet up before check in, even if its just 10 mins. I will definately be at heathrow well before any of you so will find a good, easy meet up point, whichever terminal it is.

still waiting for tickets and flight details but hopefully tomorrow or monday.

are any of you staying for the extra days? unfortunately I cant as kids, work and animals need me back 😞 . Jean, where are you packing your camera equipment? still not sure which camera to take.

hi Jean

I think the excursions will be bookable once you are out there. There will be a list to choose from, so take plenty cash as you may be tempted by them all, and not able to choose which to leave out.

With regard to the packing dilema. I am taking a suitcase for the beach, and inside that will be a holdall, with my safari clothes in.

There fore will only have one check in bag.

This was the adivse from JY, to take two bags.

The only problem with that being I could only have one check in bag at Manchester Airport for the flight to Heathrow.

Hi Dawn

Know what you mean about the packing, changed my mine several times, and out back in the wardrobe, and hung another set of out fits on the bedroom door.

I am packing my camera and binoc's etc in my hand luggage. to be safe.

I am going on the extension, shame you not, bummer! Hope the other two are !!

I've not seen sight of any tickets etc. about time they were here.

Why don't we swop e-mail address, then we can send over mobile numbers, might be the best way.

Not excited yet, keep worrying what I have forgotten to do. Bought malaria tabs yesterday from Asda £60.50. Better than first quote at £72.00.

Not long now !!!

Hello Dawn.

Sorry i have just picked up your question about cameras. Ive got a Lowepro mini trekker, it will hold all my camera gear plus things like tickets passport currency etc. the bag is within the size and weight limit for hand baggage. Hope this helps.

Regards Jean.
