Can I just mention that travel insurance and illness were covered in a recent BBC travel item? It appears that a couple were taken ill , I think in Spain, and the hotel called an ambulance to take them to hospital. The travel insurance company would not pay out and the hospital was not interested in their EHIC cards and travel policy because it was a private hospital, not a state one.

I would expect JY's tour managers to be aware of this anyway, but thought it worth a mention.

I had cause to visit a hospital on my recent visit to Berlin, where the duty surgeon would not release me until he had seen my passport and EHIC card! Whether Germany is different or the fact that a local resident contacted the emergency services I do not know. However, I have heard stories about Spain opting to send visitors to private hospitals so this is perhaps something JY should be alerting their TM's to if not already aware.

My TM, John Parry was excellent in my hour of need. And I got to meet Kalpa from JY marketing!

:thumbup:I was taken to hospital in Portugal where they did a scan and a very thorough examination, they didn't charge me anything or ask to see my insurance, my tm was excellent but she did say as we were on river cruise that it would have been different in Spain so I think it is known by the tm's

my son whilst in Spain was taken to hospital by an ambulance called for by the hotel, he had MRI scans and total check over was OK, they were not interested with EHIC card, it was all out in our insurance policy, had to lay for a cab back to hotel, insurance company paid up all the amount baring the excess.. I have never found any country that's interested in a EHIC card, but I/we do carry one..
