Hi Mildred

I am guessing the holiday creators are working on the usual new September brochure as I write?

I've not had time to take a holiday at all this year so have some catching up to do.  Before I get down to seriously looking at next year can tell me if there will be any new destinations going Asia way (not a tweaked holiday). There's a couple of holidays I would like to catch up on but am wondering if it's worth waiting to see what's in the September edition before booking anything.

Many thanks

Good Morning Avocet,

Yes the holiday creators are working on the September brochure. At the moment all the tours are in their planning infancy and not all tours usually make it into the next edition brochure but new tours will be available at the end of the year.

Kind Regards,

Mildred

Hi Mildred,

Your answer is very unclear!  Does that mean there will only be a few new tours in the Sept brochure and the bulk of them will not be on sale until the end of the year?  Traditionally the vast majority of new tours have been launched in September (with only a few new ones launched in May and Dec/Jan) - this changed a bit last year when a lot of new tours were launched in May and even more in Sept.  However this year only a couple of new tours were launched in May and I was expecting the bulk of the remainder to be launched in Sept - and all my JY buddies are expecting the same.  I will have to make my decisions for next year's holidays in the autumn and would be very annoyed if a lot of tours weren't launched until the end of the year.  It seems that most of the industry (including JY's competitors) launch their programme for the following year in the September and I hope JY will be following the usual pattern.  Finally, I think it wouldn't be a good move for JY to wait until the end of the year to launch the bulk of the new tours as it doesn't give them long to sell (especially for the pre-summer departures).  To be honest, I have been thinking that the range is so broad at present that there is only scope for a small number of new tours to be launched - is that the case?  I am surprised that the new tours are in their "planning infancy" when a new brochure is only two months away!!  I do hope you will be able to address all the points I have raised.  I am sure I am not the only one waiting anxiously for the Sept brochure so that holiday plans for 2018 can be finalised!

Best wishes,

Bob

Good Morning Bob,

I apologise if I have confused you. Due to the fact that the September brochure is still in the planning stage, I am not yet aware of the tours that are being featured in the brochure. I have said that new tours will be available by the end of the year because I know there will be some new tours introduced but I cannot disclose that information just yet.

Kind Regards,

Mildred

Hi Mildred,

Your answer does not really fill your regular JY travellers with confidence! A lot of us having been holding off booking anything for 2018 until we receive the September brochure, and from what I understand we still may not know of new tours until the end of the year - this is too late!! Having spent 40 years in advertising/publishing I am amazed that the September brochure is still in the "planning stage"! I think JY will lose a lot of business to competitors if you do not announce your new tours (and I do mean brand "new" tours) in September.

Cheers,

Hils

Hi Mildred,

Many thanks for that clarification - at least I know you are not being deliberately vague!!  I do hope that the bulk of the new tours will be launched in September as usual - I remember JY Will saying a few years ago that the new tours launched in Dec/Jan are usually few in number and "niche" tours such as a one off cruise etc. so I hope this is still the case and I won't regret booking in the autumn if some new amazing long haul tour is then launched subsequently!

It's hard to win them all and, Hils, I agree with your comments - hopefully we will all be delighted when the new brochure appears in September - it looks like JY are playing their cards close to their chests at present!  I hope there will be a few hints dropped on the forum nearer the time...the anticipation is killing me!!!

All the best,

Bob

Good Morning Hils,

Our September mailing has now past the planning stage but as I am sure you understand that a lot of our competitors watch these boards which is why we have to be careful not to give too much away too soon.

As always Julia will be posting some new tour teasers so keep a look out for it.

Kind Regards,

Mildred

Good Morning Bob,

Thank you for your understanding.

You know Julia will never leave you high and dry like that- she will be posting some teasers at some point.

I agree totally with Hils and Bob.  I would imagine that most people on here have to plan a good piece in advance for varying reasons,(work, financial planning etc).  I'm not bothered about knowing the names and locations of new tours, just that they will be in the September brochure or not.  December/January is way too late for me to be planning and booking a holiday for May/September, which is what I traditionally do.

Like Hils I have worked in advertising in the past, and know that new catalogues are planned far in advance, so I find it weird that staff are still working on a catalogue that is due out at the beginning of September!

I am only planning to take one holiday next year anyway, and I am afraid that if the new tours are held over until December/January I shall be taking my custom elsewhere.

We basically need to know whether the bulk of the new tours are going to be in the September brochure or not I believe?

Mildred, sorry to add to our queries ....

But, just wanted to ask whether any of the new tours in Sept would have dates for next February?  I've already booked skiing in Bulgaria for January and want to sort out a longer trip for Feb 2018 ( or possibly March).  I have a few trips I'm already interested in for this time, mostly with other operators, but it would be good to know if JY had something new in the works.

Thanks.

I appreciate some information is commercially sensitive at this stage, but, it would good to have some idea whether the new brochure will have the full range of 2018 departures, and if it will be issued in early or late September. From ealier comments,  my money would be on late September.   While I am in the fortunate position of not needing to book leave, I do need to plan holidays around social and family events.  I am already considering tours for January/February 2018, having recently received details from other operators.

Thanks Mildred.

I know better than to ask for precise details of new holidays, I was merely asking if there would be any completely new holidays for Asia in the September brochure.  Asia is my preferred holiday destination and I keep hoping to see Bhutan making it into the brochure one day as it is on my top destination list.  Over the years I have seen holidays given a couple of tweaks here and there, given a new title, and then put in the brochure as a NEW holiday, when in fact 95% or more is ground already covered in the original holiday, OK if you have never been on the holiday but not so good if you have.

However, my next question is - could you please tell me how many people have already booked:-

Mongolia 14th July 2018 (bit far ahead I know)

Burma and the Road to Mandalay  12th February 2018

                                                     26th February 2018

Also, what is the maximum group size for the Burma holiday.

Many thanks

Too late for 2018 but have JY considered Oman as a destination. Perhaps this could be 2 centre with Dubai. I am always drawn to Dubai as somewhere to experience but the main attraction is the desert BBQ and it is a long way to go for one of those!!. Watching a programme the other night which had a feature on Oman it looked a lot more appealing than Dubai with its skyscrapers.

Hi Avocet,

At the moment Mongolia is a bit far ahead and no-one has taken the plunge to be the first to book this date yet.

For Burma, the maximum group size across the combined main tour and the add on is 30. At the moment for 12th Feb departure there are 9 travellers booked (6 on the main tour, 3 on the add on) and for 26th Feb there are 3 travellers booked (all on the main tour).

Kindest regards

Julia

Hi Jonah,

I will pass on your suggestion to our holiday creators!

Hi Jonah and Julia,

I agree wholeheartedly, I would love to see Oman and Dubai as a two centre holiday - I have looked at the TS Oman tour which only offers Dubai as an add-on and is very expensive for a single traveller at just £3,000 for ten days.  Also I see that TS have discontinued it for next year, I presume because of a low uptake, which is a real pity.  I do hope JY are able to source a tour that covers both places at a reasonable price!  I know it is an expensive part of the world to travel to however.  And I agree Jonah, the desert safari and BBQ would be what draws me most to Dubai - as well as the experience of just being there.  Oman offers some beautiful landscapes and more authentic Arabic experiences.

Here's hoping!

All the best,

Bob
