Hi , separated 6 months ago and need a holiday ,I'm 48 and have been looking at single holidays , just a bit concerned as I'd like to be with a mixture of ages and most people seem to be in their 60s etc, I have no problem with that but can anyone recommend a hotel where I won't feel out of place , maybe Mallorca , Spain , tenarriffe or Greece for my first as it'll all be a bit daunting I don't want to go too far, just want to lay by the pool really not one for trips not in this  first one anyway ! I'd really appreciate some advice thanks very much in advance .

Hi

I'm 39 and I'm going on the magical Mallorca trip on 7th June. I will go on the trips but they are optional. They have changed the hotel for this trip so the new place is 10 minutes from Palma. I don't know what it'll be like but I'm looking forward to it ?

Hi Aceface83,

Welcome to Just You and the world of single travel. You have no need to be concerned about age ranges, although the majority of our travellers are aged between the 60's and mid-70's, we have loads of travellers who fall in to the younger age categories.

We offer a range of holidays called 'Escape' trips, which are resort-based holidays that offer the ideal balance between relaxation and exploration. They include a couple of included excursions which you can opt-out of. Take a look at the link below for more information as these sound ideal for your first trip with Just You.

https://www.justyou.co.uk/en-gb/holiday-types/escape/?internal_promotion=community

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Kindest regards,

Monty

Hello, Monty.   I've just spotted this.   If the Mallorca holiday is no longer based at the hotel in Puerto Pollensa this needs to be flagged up on the Destinations part of the website and in the brochure because at the moment no change of hotel has been shown.   It's a pity if the hotel and town have been changed because the Puerto Pollensa Spa Hotel was very good when I was there last year.

Hi Alison, I've booked the Magical Mallorca trip too but going in Sept. Notice you mention they have changed the hotel, is that for all dates for Mallorca in 2016? I thought it was the Fergus Style Spa Hotel in Puerto Pollensa

Hi,  I'm also on the 7 June trip to Mallorca. Sadly I'm in the 60s bracket but looking forward to a week lazing by the pool/beach. Hope to see you both there.

Hi All,

It is only the June departure which has had a hotel change. Sorry for the confusion.

That's a relief, Monty.   It'd be a shame to lose the PP Spa for good.

I booked what I thought was a holiday to Puerto Pollensa last Wednesday after looking at the website. Was very upset when my booking confirmation detailed another hotel and resort. I made JY aware that the website is incorrect last Thursday. Disappointing that the wrong details are still there today. Really poor communication and a lack of consideration for customers

Hi Eljay,

The hotel you are staying in would have been flagged up when you went through the checkout process online. We have now added a note under the itinerary explaining that 7th June and 20th September departures stay at a different hotel.

Apologies for the confusion.

Kindest regards,

Monty

Hi Aceface.

I know what you mean about a good range of ages. It can be a concern if most of one's colleagues are quite elderly and you turn out to be the 'baby' of the group.

My trip to Marrakech over Christmas 2015 had an excellent range of ages, but I fear my forthcoming holiday to Lake Como on 13th June this year might have more elderly people in.

I think JY ought to have an 'age suggestion' on their vacations, such as 'for all ages', '39 to 60' and '60 and over'. It would help a lot.

Hi Graham and Aceface

I am not sure why both of you are so worried about the ages. All Just You holidays are suitable for ALL ages. Some holidays may require you to be fit to be able to enjoy everything, but age does not matter on Just You Holidays. Some people we consider to be elderly know how to have more fun than people who we consider to be younger! If you are able to get on with people of all ages, then you will have fun on any Just You holidays. After all age is just a number and numbers do not really matter. Don't let the Age worry stop you from booking a Just You holiday. Life is too short to worry about little things. I have now been on 13 Just You holidays and can assure you that on each holiday there were people of all ages - from late 20s to 80s. In fact a lady aged 80 on a trip to Istanbul, Troy and Ephesus was so fit that she put the younger ones to shame and she had a young heart too. You are as old as you feel!

Please be assured that I am not 'getting at you', just trying to assure you both so you do not miss out.

Well said Jaya. It's  sad to see the "age issue" surfacing yet again. One of the big attractions of JY is the multi age range.

Looking at the date Graham posted this message, I wonder if it was what the French call "un poisson d'avril".   If so, he did a good job since I can't have been the only one who read it as genuine!

Hi, you are using the words "concern" and "fear" in your post, it's a holiday and holidays are what you make of them.  There certainly is nothing to "fear" and "concerns" are personal are they not?  Lake Como is just beautiful and I am sure you will have a wonderful time.  Being totally honest I know people around age 30 who seem old and I have holidayed with people much older than me with far more energy and a greater sense of adventure. it boils down to your outlook on life not your age.  Finally you can always post in the "Ask your Editor" section asking the numbers and age range of your group, JY will always come back with the answer.

Totally agree with your comments, I might be a younger one ? But I suffer with joint problems, so I don't worry about age I worry about health....

I have done many tours now since 2006 I am now 57 if and when there has been a real young one in a tour group it has not been an issue, at the end of the day we all choose the tour because it's where we want to go..meeting people is a great by product for me....

Hi Graham,

Sorry, but I don't agree with your "age suggestion" which is used by some tour operators, and not by either of those I use.

I am in my 70's and have made very good friends with a couple of JY travellers some 20+ years younger than me, who I would not have met if this idea had been followed.  I know it is only a suggestion from you, but there are some who would a avoid holiday if they thought the others would be much younger or older.

I prefer JY's walking ability guide which is a much better indication of the suitability of a particular tour, rather than age.

Hello Graham

My thoughts are along the same lines as Jaya.  I don't see any reason why JY should have an 'age suggestion'.  For what purpose? And how would you propose to implement it?

I have been travelling with JY since 2005 and been on 17 holidays to present date, the majority of which have been very busy long haul, and I would say that all of those holidays have been suitable for 'all ages' providing you are reasonably fit and well.  A good many of those holidays have included at least one person in their 80's, who managed to keep up with those younger than themselves without any problems.

JY does have a 'Please note.........' on quite a lot of their holidays, which usually comes at the end of 'Your Itinerary' and should be read by all, both older and younger people, although on the odd occasion that bit sometimes gets overlooked.  But, even if you choose one of those holidays, there will be no guarantee as to the age of your travelling companions as most will be equally as capable as you in getting around and enjoying themselves, therefore, there is no need for 'age suggestion'.  I can get on with people of any age, when I go on holiday I'm too busy enjoying all the sights and sounds around me to worry about how old my travelling

companions are.

Please don't put people into boxes, that's not what JY holidays are about, for most age is not a problem, that's why people keep coming back holiday after holiday.  It's down to each individual to decide whether they want to accept things as they are, if they don't, then there are plenty of other holiday companies out there.  I would venture to say it's more whether someone has an amiable personality that really counts, not their age.  But, if you want to see the world and all the great places in it what better way to do it than with JY!

One note of caution though, women usually outnumber men, sometimes by quite a few, so if that will be a problem it may be advisable to leave booking for as long as practicable and asking the ratio of men v women before you book.

I'll post a review of the new hotel and resort when I get back.  Hopefully it will be ok.
