Hi All,

I am not quite sure if this is for me. I am 60 single and longing to travel but this single traveller outing will be a first for me and I would like to hear of other people's experiences please.:)

Hello and welcome to you Kat

I have been in 8 JY tours ith a 9th booked. At 60 you will be in the core age group so you will it in fine. I am now 53 and been travelling with JY for 6 years there will be people younger and older than you. Pick a tour that you like the look off then you will have that in common with the other travellers...the group does mix in really well and very quickly. You get time to send with a mix of people young, old, male, female, all from different walks of life. Yu will have fun I am sure.

I have been on varied tours short haul and Long haul, from Kenyan Safari to HKG and NZ to AustriA lakes Nd many more. If I can help at all just ask..

This is a very safe way to travel, you se some great sights and meet a good bunch of people along the way.

Hello Kat,

I understand your apprehension. I was the same.

I did my first JY holiday to Italy in May, also aged 60. It was more than I hoped for. As everyone on here says, everyone mixes very well, but you can be on your own if you want to. A bonus is that you don't have to eat alone. That's one of the things that stops me from going away on my own.

And the excursions with your fellow travellers makes that easier too. I didn't do every excursion. Sometimes I just wanted to hang about the hotel or wander around the village. This was fine and no one minded at all.

There was a good mix of ages and women were in the majority. I made friends on the trip and we're still in touch. In fact some of us plan to meet up next year. So I'd say go for it. You won't regret it.

Good luck,

Jean

Hi Kat

I was in exactly the situation as you in September except I'm 62. I've just returned from the Wonder of China tour (my first ever solo trip) and I had a WONDERFUL time!! Our group of solo travellers very quickly became like family all looking out for each other, joking with each other and sharing the experiences.

JY look after everything for you, they really are very organised and seem to have thought of every eventuality.

The only thing that might stop me travelling with JY in the future is that my bank balance no longer gets decently replenished each month :(

I would have no hesitation in booking more solo trips with JY, finances allowing.

Rest assured that whilst you may be a solo traveller, you will not be alone.

I hope you really enjoy whatever adventure you choose as much as I did.

Just go for it what have you got to lose??

Kindest regards

Kath

I've been on 2 JY holidays and most of my fellow travellers were 50s/60s. A few in their 30s/40s and some in their 70s. Women outnumber men. Both times to Italy, which I love. Its really easy as you just have to get to the airport and from then on everything's sorted, there are plenty of excursions organised (although you don't have to go on them all - I missed out on a couple to have some down time at the resort). You also have your fellow travellers to eat with, which as Jean says above, I also find the most difficult thing if I'm travelling alone. I dont think I'm especially good at mixing with new people but in the JY environment I seem to manage and have not had any problems in finding others to join in with.

Hi Kate, I can only reiterate what all the others have said. I went on my first JY holiday to Kenya in march 2011. My husband passed away five years ago and it took me two and a half years to pluck up the courage to do my first solo holiday. My only regret is that I waited so long!!! I now have the travelling bug big time. I went to

peru/Amazon last march and have booked to go to Thailand in march 2013. I can't wait to book my 2014 holiday. DON'T HESITATE take the plunge and book that first trip. Life is too short and precious to waste dithering on the sidelines. You won't regret it I promise:thumbup:

Hi there. I am a fairly recent convert to Just You only having been on 2 trips so far. I have done a fair amount of travelling on my own, even in Europe, but I came across the website in late 2010 and decided to give it a go. I adore Italy and decided to give the (then) new trip to Cilento Coast a go. I have to admit that it was partly mercenary because there was no single room supplement to pay, and as other posters have mentioned I thought it would be nice to share meals with other people instead of sitting on my own!

So in May 2011 off I went to Gatwick to fly off to Naples. I was really lucky in a sense because it turned out that the Tour Manager for the trip was staying at the same b and b as myself the night before. So that was someone to talk to from the start. I loved the trip, wonderful hotel (I hope to go back again sometime soon), great food and my room was amazing! A nice mix of people, some of whom knew each other from other trips but stil mixed in with everyone else. I think that the oldest person was in her early 80's

After that lovely experience I booked again for the same time this year (May). This time for Croatia, somewhere that I had not been for 25 years. Again a great trip and perhaps more socialising in the resort. It was always nice to walk into the village and meet up with people along the way. We shared drinks and meals outside the hotel as well as in. I met some really nice people.

To sum up. You mix as much as you want, go on as many trips as you want, and have the room to do your own thing. All without the dreaded single room supplement!

There are lots of posts on the forum from people in the same situation as yourself, and for the vast majority they have never regretted taking that first step.

You could always dip your toes in the water with a short European holiday, or a discovery weekend, either way I'm sure that you won't regret it.
