Hi All,

I have been shopping around for MALARONE antimalarial tablets today. The cheapest I have located by far are Super Drug pharmacy. I paid £31.92 for 14 tablets and just bought them over the counter with a private prescription.

The other places I tried were Sainsburys, Lloyds pharmacy (online) and Boots and all were considerably more. Hope this helps those of you looking for Malarone supplies! To locate where the Super Drug pharmacies were and to see if there were any near me I went online to Super Drug and typed in postcode. Happy hunting.

Hi,

I always get my Malarone tablets from www.travelpharm.com. You send them your prescription and they send the tablets (you have to sign for them). Current price is £2.25 per tablet.

Hi Debbie,

Thanks for the info, had my Yellow Fever jab yesterday and the Nurse advised Malarone malaria tablets as they are less likely to have side effects than the cheaper ones. Thought I would have to pay £60 + perscription charge so now realise prices vary! Only 12 weeks till my holiday to Kenya so now its begining to seem real! Any more tips appreciated!

Tips for Kenya: plenty of memory cards/film for photo's as you will take lot's. Loose fitting clothes it is very hot/humid. Plenty of suntan lotion, after sun etc... there is an aids orphanage near by, ( you go by Taxi) and they are always looking for stuff for the kids from babes in arms to young teens..I took loads of cheap colouring pencils and books, in fact all the people want pencils so just hand them out to everyone, including taxi drivers!!! I can give you more information if need be. Have a treatment in the salon, I had an Indian Head massage which was bliss, and a manicure which was very nice, Both were so much cheaper than in England.

The orphanage is approx 10 min taxi ride and you get the driver to wait for you...I went with I think 3 other ladies and we spent just over an hour there the kids love visitors turning up, we didnt have to pre book a visit. Also any toiletries are usefull as well.

It is called Tumaini and is a Childrens Aids Orphanage

Hello,

My daughter took Doxycycline for her trip to Vietnam. Had a private prescription for £6 something but her friend spent a fortune for the same amount of drugs. Malarone has got nasty side effects so be warned, mostly headaches and stomach upsets.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for that info. Its quite confusing now as I have been told by couple of people in the medical profession that its Malarone that doesn't have the side effects so its worth paying more. Will have to ask around for more feedback.

Hi Debs

Thought this worth a look as have already suffered from one severe side effect of malarone (without ever taking it) so looking at alternatives. Just looked up doxycycline on web and says the side effects for this drug is the worst of all malaria options

Hello Everyone

I hope you all enjoy your trip to Kenya like I did, In fact I am going back next year to work at the Aids Orphanage that I visited while I was out there,in Mombasa I introduced Nixon to the Orphanage and Travelpharm, she only wanted to stay at the Orphanage for 1 hour and I had booked and arranged with the Taxi Driver to stay for 2 hours but the other 2 couldnt hack it. Therefore I was not happy that they wanted to rush away and felt it was unfinished business, hence my visit next year on my own and no-one can rush me along.. The Children were wonderful but if you go to see them don't be rushed take your time with them and enjoy the experience of these dear little ones. Don't be selfish we have got the rest of our lives.I must admit on the flight out there I had Chronic Tummy ache because of the Tablets but after that 1st Day I was fine.

I wish you all a lovely time which I know it will stay with you forever, like myself except for a few hiccups !!!!

I have used Malarone on 2 trips now, and they have the LEAST side effects. I have had no problems whatsoever with them.

I used Malarone for both Kenya and The Gambia. Cheapest by far - you can use their on line prescription service - no need to get one from your doc.

True about pencils etc - clothes always welcome too at schools and orphanages.

Hi All

I've used Malarone once (bought from Travelpharm) and had no side effects whatsoever. However, a chap on my trip used Doxy... and was in a terrible state and had to stop taking it. We are all different so its up to the individual and their GP's recommendation I fear.

Hi, I have also been advised t have Malerone, and a few people I have spoken to tell me that the need to be taken with food, rather than before or afterwards. When taken with food the did not have a problem,. My friend took one one before food. And she felt very dizzy. With food, no problem at all.

I ordered mine from Dr Fox on line pharmacy, and you hVe to have an on line consultation first. Very good service, but I can't rmember how much they were.
