Larium is a weekly tablet and if you have never used it before I would advise at least a 3 week trial before you go on holiday as it can have bizarre side effects such as bad dreams.

Side effects may include: nausea, diarrhoea, dizziness, abdominal pain, rashes, skin itch, headache, dizziness, convulsions, sleep disturbances (insomnia, vivid dreams) and psychotic reactions such as depression.

Anyone with a history of low mood/depression should not take larium.

Last year in Zambia I opted for Malarone, they are more expensive but I had no side effects whatsoever.

Hope this helps.

Hi. I went on the Kenya trip last year, and most of us bought Malarone tablets, which seem to have the least side effects. I used www.travelpharm.com, which are normally the cheapest and have proved reliable in the past. Enjoy the trip - it's fantastic!

Like the others that have posted my doctor said Malarone had the least side effects, a pain taking 1 a day for 23 days but rather that than have to many side effects I thought and thats the one she advised for me.

Hi. I have bought Malarone for trip to Kenya too. Got them through my doctors and they cost about £70! Worth the money if they work as mosquitoes love me.
