Hi Everyone, I have not travelled solo before and am looking at the Western Wonders tour. For those of you who have already done this tour can you tell me where you met the tour manager? If it is at Los Angeles airport - where exactly in the airport did you meet them? I am worried I might not find them as the airport is huge and I was told that you do not get the tour managers phone number before you meet them in person - you just get the emergency number of JY back in England - not much good if you can't get a signal in the airport!. Be grateful to hear from anybody that can advise as this is the only thing putting me off going. Thanks in advance!

Hi there

I did the previous version of the Western Wonders tour which was called 'America's Golden West' and had a great time.

In my experience, it depends on the tour but sometimes a Tour Manager will travel with the group from the UK. In that case, they will probably meet you at the gate (or in the lounge if you have a free lounge pass as part of your package). If they are meeting you on arrival, it will be by the baggage carousel and they will be waving a JY clipboard. They will have a group list and will not leave without you. You will also be sent JY luggage tags with your final documents and many JYers tie one of these to their hand luggage in the airport so that they can identify each other. Usually, JY have block bookings on a plane so the chances are that you will have met some of the group sitting next to you before you land!

I've been travelling with JY (and Travelsphere) for nearly 20 years and definitely recommend that you give it a go. All the logistics are taken care of so you can just sit back and enjoy your adventure. Just think of your tour group as friends you haven't met yet and dive in!

All the best

Mandy

When I did the Western Wonders tour, we met our Tour Manager by the baggage carousel at LAX. They were holding a clipboard with the JY logo, so it was pretty easy to spot them. Plus, they had a list of everyone in our group so you won't be left behind!

Hi,

I'm also thinking of booking this trip and will be my first solo trip also. We could always meet in the Lounge at the airport so can follow each other in finding our way!

Thank you Mandy. I didn't think anyone was allowed into the baggage hall unless they were passengers but that's not so then. Do JY tell you where the tour guide will meet you in your final paperwork or something? Sorry for all the questions - this is all new to me!

Hi Charlie, yes definitely - where abouts do you live? I am in London.

I've done holidays both where the tour manager travels with you and where they don't and meet you there. I did this tour in 2019 and met the manager there. Honestly don't worry you just go through all you need to, collect your luggage and make your way out and the manager will be there with a clip board. You'll meet fellow travellers at the airport in the UK and people buddy up so you're never left wondering around the airport totally alone just stick with someone else. I've never had any issues.  You'll enjoy the holiday it was great when I did it and I'm still in touch with some I travelled with.

I did this tour over 20 years ago and enjoyed it.  I've longed to go back and am very close to booking the 30 April date.

I've just got my new ESTA so want to make the most of it. I'm from Newport south wales.

Well I've just booked Western Wonders for 30 April next year. It's been a while since I've visited that coast and look forward to returning. I just need to book a Heathrow hotel for the night before as I live in Newport south wales and it's too far to take a risk on traffic etc. So fellow travellers on this trip, it would be great to get in touch and say hello.
