Hi all, I am going on the Trip to Portugal in April. It's my first time going on a solo holiday, so little nervous. It would be lovely to say hello to anyone else who will be going on that trip. I'm based in Brighton so will be heading out from Gatwick.

thanks

paula

Your trip is coming up soon, Paula. It's fine to be nervous, but I hope you enjoy your first solo trip. I have some notes from my trip to Portugal that I will share with you soon. They may help you decide what to see and do. I'm sure other solo travelers will give you some useful advice, but it's good to be prepared.

https://www.thomascook.com/holidays/weather/portugal/april/ . The weather is perfect for hiking, countryside exploration, and visiting cities and cultural sites without the peak tourist crowds. Here are some travel tips to enhance your solo travel experience:

  • Security and Awareness: Portugal is one of the safest, most peaceful countries in the world. This means that unless you’re in heavily crowded metro areas like Lisbon or Porto, there is little to nothing to worry about when it comes to pickpockets, scams and social unrest. To avoid pickpockets, keep your belongings secure, use anti-theft bags, and be cautious in crowded places. Opt for well-lit streets at night, and avoid poorly-lit or deserted areas to ensure a safe and enjoyable exploration of the city.

https://www.lisbonportugaltourism.com/lisboa-card.html  which provides unlimited rides on public transportation within Lisbon. Additionally, it offers discounts ranging from 10% to 70% on accommodation in Lisbon. This card is a convenient way to explore the city.

  • Emergency Number: Remember that 112 is the European emergency number, accessible free of charge from fixed and mobile phones across the EU. It connects you directly to emergency services such as police, ambulance, and fire assistance.

Enjoy your time in Portugal, and may your journey be filled with memorable experiences!
