Hi all,

I see that some of you (Hils!!) have already spotted our first new festive holiday on the website.

So, I am delighted to announce that we have introduced a 21-day trip to Antarctica! You’ll experience awe-inspiring landscapes and nature at its most sublime during this expedition which takes in the Chilean Fjords, Antarctica, the Magellan Strait and the Falkland Islands on board the cruise ship Midnatsol.

Our Antarctic adventurers will join the cruise ship in Punta Arenas and head south along the Magellan Strait passing Isla Tucker, famous for its Magellanic penguins, birds, dolphins and sea lions. Surrounded by soaring mountains the Chilean fjords are truly spectacular and lead the narrow Canal Gabriel and on to the island of Cape Horn.

You can celebrate Christmas at sea in Norweigen style with a festive dinner and carols around the Christmas tree. After six days of exploring Antarctica the ship heads to the Falkland Islands where red phone boxes and English pubs await.

The adventure concludes with a cruise back along the Magellan Strait to Punta Arenas and a flight back to the UK from Santiago.

If this tickles your fancy, have a look at the link below and let you know what your initial thoughts are.

Kindest regards,

Monty

Hi Monty, this sounds absolutely fabulous and I've looked at similar holidays with Travelsphere numerous times over the last few years.  Unfortunately I cannot go away at Christmas time due to work and family commitments so can I ask PLEASE (not shouting but just trying to emphasize!) can the holiday creators run this tour at another time as well - if not in 2017 (I know it has to go during the short Antarctic summer) then in 2018??  I've already booked Burma for February 2017 but I would love to do this in January 2018 if it could be arranged?!

Cheers,

Bob

PS Hey everyone, I know from doing my own research and from a couple I know that this tour would be incredible, so come on and book and make it a success!!!!!

Wow, I'd love to do this but I just cannot afford it and I never buy a lottery ticket!   I used to work in the Falkland Islands (before the Argentine invasion) and did see penguins but never got down to the Antarctic.   If any lucky so-and-sos do manage to go, PLEASE post a review when you get back.

Hi Monty, definitely want to do this holiday. Depends if I can get away at Christmas, I suspect this tour will sell out very quickly, so hope I can commit to doing it shortly. (Have already spotted some 2017 dates on the website and am looking to book Cuba for January and then Cambodia, Laos + Vietnam early March - this is getting to be very expensive.)

Very much looking forward to seeing what other long haul trips you have, any chance of Ethiopia or Iran?

Regards, Katy

You'll have to get a move on, Katy.   When I checked out the link to the holiday about half an hour ago it was already marked "only 15 places left"!

OMG this holidays is spectacular.  Unfortunately well out side my budget for time off and finances but I really look forward to a review when the tour has run.  Please JY don't forget those of us who have to take shorter nearer to home holidays.  Like Bob I am really disappointed about the Iceland longer holiday not appearing as we were assured when we returned last March that it would be looked at.  I would love to go in summer when the waterfalls are not frozen!!

I'm also hoping for Ethiopia and Iran at some stage!  Fingers crossed!

Hi Jonah,

I have been scouring the website over the last few days since the new 2017 dates have appeared!  There is a June departure for the Icelandic Splendours trip but seeing as it would be exactly the same itinerary as the one we did last year it wouldn't interest me.  I may well do the TS one a few years down the road but I'm hopeful JY will put together a week long Iceland tour for the summer at some stage.

All the best,

Bob

My son has been to the Falklands during his Navy career it's very flat, but has great pictures of penguins and seals..

If any one books this holiday - could they take my camera along for the ride and take lots of photos for me.... I would love to do this holiday but unfortunately it is outside my budget unless I give up holidays for a couple of years to save for it. 🙂 😞

Hi Jonah, Iceland wasn't on my wishlist until I read Bob's review, and everybody else who's been on it seems to love it.  But the short JY trip doesn't appeal, was also hoping for a longer trip.  So this is a big disappointment.  I think I may now do the trip with another company as I have found a 10 day Iceland trip for this summer I like the look of - just a bit difficult now organising work around it.

I've just been looking at the ship's website. Can you tell me which grade of cabin is included in the basic price please?

Hi everyone, in case you haven't noticed JY have brought back Russia!  They've also tweaked the itinerary from their previous tour.  Here's a link to it:

I'll sign up for Antarctica for the following winter - only please, please not over Christmas.

You've got one definite booking, JY!

Yes to Iran too.  I'm looking for a tour to Iran that doesn't include an internal flight.

Hi All

I would love to do this holiday but sadly, ships and me don't get on. My feet need to be firmly on the ground!

Hi Katy

Would that be an over 50 company by any chance?

I really wanted to go to Russia and was disappointed when JY removed it due to the more complex visa arrangements.  I've just booked to go with another company in September, which was more expensive than JY's trip, so I'm wishing I'd had some patience!

Oh well, maybe my lottery numbers will come up and I can do the fantastic Antarctica trip at Christmas.  Once again, my wish list needs updating......

No, not that one (although I do qualify, sadly).  Not TS, but begins with a T.
