Hi Ina,

I did Uzbekistan in November, fantastic holiday.

Regarding hotels, if you are on the group visa, your passport will be collected by the JY TM and he/she will (if like ours) take care of the registration and return your passport to you. Those on the group visa only had to do this at the first hotel. Several on their own visas had to do this at each hotel.

I'm sure if you want the hassle and to do this yourself you'll be quite welcome, but whilst the TM and local guide sorted the paperwork we were all relaxing in the bar.

Glad you said that about the passports Sandy, I was beginning to think I might have had too many vodkas along the way (my post today under Reviews)

You have me intrigued about the group visa, so obviously the travel agent can arrange a group visa ? For all Eu nationalities? I am curious as I didn't know there was such a visa.

Thanks Avocet. Another entirely different question, , for Uzbekistan what vaccinations should I get? Or if just visiting cities is it possible to get by without them?

Hello Ina

As with any other long haul holiday you should check with your GP or Travel Adivsor at your surgery 6 - 8 weeks before you go as to whether you need vaccinations or other preventative measures for the country you are visiting. If required the normal vaccinations recommended are Diphtheria/Tetanus/Polio, Hepatitis A and Typhoid, malaria tablets may be required if you are going to a country where there is a presence of malaria.

As I said your GPs surgery will advise you, don't take any chances on travelling long haul without checking first.

Hi there

I'm looking to go to Uzbekistan in either October or November and have two questions if anyone can answer them.

1. What is the weather like for those months

2. I am gluten intolerant - would I struggle with the food in any way?

Many thanks

Ina,

For Uzbekistan (as you'll see in the brochure or upon booking) there is a £90 fee for JY to obtain your visa on your behalf - this is optional. You can apply yourself, but I've often found the processes too complicated to be bothered and this is not helped by the fact that many of the documents needed for this (or any other country's) application are with JY and not sent out until close to departure, jeopardizing getting that visa.

To be honest, this fee is one of my gripes with JY, This visa actually costs around £50, and as JY often do, they actually get a group visa which is about £20 per person which must give them a considerable profit even once the administration costs are taken into account. Of course, the alternative is doing it yourself.

Whether JY can act as your agent depends upon a few factors such as your nationality and passport held. Details of what they can/will do are generally sent with your confirmation invoice.

Just my experience here - Julia may be able to answer any more specific questions you have.

There are some lovely souvenirs to buy - quite cheaply (pottery, dolls etc) and especially if you like blue!!

When you get home you'll want to redesign your home to accommodate your new

purchases! In Bukhara you can buy 'miniatures' - lovely intricate paintings in the old tradition. I've got two on

my wall that I'm looking at now - these are quite expensive ($50 to $80 or so) but I love them.

I'm so glad I took some extra cash.

This is really good info. Thanks everyone. I was planning to go in November, and unfortunately that date has been cancelled. I can't go earlier so the Silk Road will have to wait for next year. I'm disappointed but still looking forward to going.

Thank you for your report, i thinking about Uzbekistan for next holiday season. Is it hard to get visa only for myself?
