I'm thinking of doing the trip early October. What are the temperatures like then, please? Sea swimming still possible?

Good Afternoon DaveMorton,

Climate & Clothing

Croatia has a varied climate, with continental climate conditions inland and Mediterranean influence on the Adriatic coast. You can expect plenty of sunshine from April to October on the coast, with July and August being the hottest months. April/May and September/October are the best months to travel holidays that involve activities and sightseeing, as the heat remains moderate and there are fewer crowds.

Lightweights and beachwear (including sun protection) are recommended for the spring/summer months. Medium weights are recommended for winter with heavy, warm clothing for inland areas. It is a good idea to pack waterproofs at any time of year. Comfortable shoes are a must as there can be a lot of walking involved on some excursions.

As Croatia is such a large country with such varying temperatures it is best to check weather forecasts yourself just prior to travel. Information is readily available on the internet.

Kind Regards,

Mildred

Just to add one in on this Dave.  The hotel has a paved area where you can swim from.  There is also a beach with a café a short walk on the Lungomare from the hotel.  Turn left on the path out of the hotel, down some steps onto the Lungomare and continue left.  In case you don't know beaches in Croatia are very pebbly/rocky so I would recommend plastic beach shoes.  If you decide to go on the optional boat trip (highly recommended) there is a beach and safe swimming on the first island you go to, and you would certainly have time for a swim there.  The boat also goes to Cres, and stops at a nice beach there.  The beaches on the islands are still pebbly, but not so rocky as the mainland.  I hope that helps.

The hotel has a small outdoor pool (more of a large plunge pool I guess), and a larger indoor pool too.

As Mildred says pack for all weathers.  I don't swim, but I do paddle 🙂 , and it was certainly warm enough for that in the middle of September.

If I can help with any more questions on the trip I am more than happy to help if I can.

Thanks. Mildred

I appreciate you can't give a definitive answer, but I am not going to sue if the weather turns out worse than expected!

I was merely hoping that I could get some idea from someone who had been there at that time. I have been further south - the Aegean and up as far as Dubrovnik - and the temperatures were perfect.there, early October. But the Istrian Peninsula is quite a long way north of that...I wanted to make a booking on the strength of good information, that was all. And my question was about the Istrian coast, which is a relatively small area, and about sea temperatures, which are not really weather dependent.
