Hi Julia/Monty,

I am having great trouble getting a upgrade quote for one of my JY holidays for next year, and although I have spoken to various JY advisers on the phone, I thought I would try and send an email, to be passed on to Aviation, but every time I try this it says there is an "Internal Server problem". Is there any way to contact Aviation direct?

Cheers,

Hils

Hi Hils,

Can I ask which holiday you are looking at upgrading? This is so that I can send you the correct contact details of someone who will be able to help you a little better.

Kindest Regards,

Monty

I've also had problems with upgrades in the past. One of the business class perks, excepting BA, is being to select seats at time of booking. Also, because you have an individual booking you should be able to check-in online using your PNR number . I have usually needed to make several calls to sort out upgrades, book my preferee seat and obtain my PNR. Not great service, in view of the high cost. I have on occasion found I could book direct with the airline for considerably less than the JY quote. I appreciate there are admin costs, but some of the mark ups have been eye watering.

Hi Hils,

I have spoken to our aviation team, and they have looked at a business class and subject to availability the supplement is £5189.00. These flights are subject to availability and change at time of booking.

Do you want to know anything else regarding upgrades?

Kindest Regards,

Monty

£5189, that is what I call eye watering, would rather fly in the luggage hold than pay that.

Hi Monty,

Thank you for coming back to me so quickly. This upgrade price is ridiculous! I have looked at the Singapore Airlines website and if I was to purchase a Business Class ticket based on the flights we are going on, it would be £3683.36! I know JY obviously take a mark up, but +41% is mind boggling! I have done 15 holidays with JY and 6 of those have been Business Class - I have complained in the past that the earlier I book it appears I pay more than anyone else! Last November on the Polar Bear trip to Canada I paid £1000 more than anyone else!! I know that there are a few of us who want to upgrade on the Borneo trip, and I know Singapore Airlines is one of the best airlines in the world, but please can you get Aviation to justify this price? Having had my hip replacement operation this year, I really need to have the room in Business Class. There are of course other companies that go to Borneo!!

Kind regards,

Hils

Hi Monty,

Further to my reply to your post re upgrade cost - I have now added in the flight from Singapore to Kota Kinabalu return and this would be another £538.20 based on today's exchange rates. So, a total of £4221.56 for Business Class and JY's quote is now +23%, but of course, we have already got an Economy ticket price built in to our holiday so the upgrade price should include this cost.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Hils

Hi Hils,

I have spoken to the aviation team regarding your concerns. I can confirm that the price above includes all flights travelling in business class. We can get the fare cheaper but tickets would have to issued earlier (by the 20th October 15) and we would have to take payment of the supplement now to cover the cost of the ticket. The supplement would be £3459.00.

We are also waiting for Singapore Airlines to send through their confirmations for this date as flights are subject to availability.

I hope this makes it a little bit clearer?

Kindest Regards,

Monty

Hi Monty,

Thank you for coming back to me so quickly. Just to clarify, if I paid £3459 now, would that be instead of the £5189 and would it cover all flights?? I also want to book a specific seat (due to the hip), and would this be possible?

Cheers,

Hils

An amazing reduction!! .But on the figures Hils quoted it still looks as though the full credit the included economy fare has not been given.
