Apologies if this post appears twice, but I couldn't find my original message.

If I wanted to upgrade my flight on a long haul journey, would I be viewed as being antisocial in that I would be separate from the majority of the group who I assume would be booked into economy? I assume during an 8 hour plus flight, people get to know one another and if I wasn't there some people might consider it antisocial, or am I worrying unnecessarily?

I don't know the costs of upgrading as I haven't looked into it, but on a long haul journey this would be my preference.

Have any other travellers had any experience of this please?

Thanks, Jane

Hi Jane,

If you want to upgrade, then just do it! In my experience (only short haul though) the seating is pretty random on the plane. Folks will probably try and sleep on a long haul flight so it's not as if you'll be chatting to them all the time. And TBH 8 hours in economy is not my idea of a nice end to a holiday. If / when I fly long haul with JY I will definitely upgrade.

Hi Jane, I've answered your question on your other thread! It can take half a day or more for threads to appear sometimes, so don't worry.

All the best,

Hi Jane,

Did not fancy being squashed up on my Singapore, Australia & New Zealand trip last year so went business class to Australia via Singapore and return to UK via Sydney. That cost about another £3400 extra to the holiday but I felt is well worth it. Lie flat beds, great service, lots of leg room and could get some sleep.

Originally I was economy class between Christchurch, New Zealand and Sydney but on enquiring upgrading on that leg was only 300 or so New Zealand Dollars, which I did. So I flew Business Class right from New Zealand to the UK.

When I fly next year to Canada ( my next planned holiday) for my Across Canada rail trip I will again be upgrading to Business class. Thats the only way to do it in my mind.

Eric.

Thank you Eric, if I can afford it, that's definitely the way to go. I am more reassured now.
