Hi

Just received my travel documents for Vietnam and Cambodia in 3 weeks time. All very exciting! But very frustrated at not being able to check in on line! Means I have to catch a bus at 2.30AM and arrive at the airport ridiculously early, when I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling. Or go and stay at Heathrow the night before.

Why is is not possible to check in on line in this day and age?

Hi Lynn - please can you let me have your booking reference number and I'll look into this for you.

Thanks,

Tim

The answer to this question I have had in the past is that it is because it is a GROUP booking and not a single booking, perhaps that is the answer.

Oh how I agree - absolutely ridiculous. In the past I have been given "group booking" as an excuse. But there is still a booking reference number on the paperwork. Though that will probably be omitted now!

Right that's my frustration vented.

I spoke to someone today and apparently if I could check in on line then that checks the whole group in! Which strikes me as being somewhat ridiculous! So how come when I go and check in at a desk in person I don't check in the whole group?

Everyone has their own booking reference, you have to give your name and passport number so this should be enough to do it on line. I appreciate that not everyone wants to do this but if they don't then that's fine

Rant over!

Dear all,

I did try to reply to this thread but it got lost somewhere.

I had the good fortune to be able to check in online with Ba. This was due to the fact that JY had to buy another flight for me as their allocation had been used up. It is so easy to check in and would highly recommend it.

The reason for not being able to check in online is that if you are a group with more than 9 people you are unable to use this facility. I don't think it has anything to do with Just You though.

I hope this helps?

The same reason is given for not be able to amend your seat allocation - if I can't ask JY to get me extra leg room/exit seat, I should be able to. It's far too late when you check in at the airport to get these seats.

I don't understand why you need to check in on line. You are not going to be able to choose a particular seat as all group bookings on airlines usually means sitting in the back of the plane. If I've wanted an aisle or a window seat on a long haul flight, I've requested it with Just You at the time of booking and have always got what I wanted. As for getting to the airport early, you will probably find that the check in desks don't open until three hours before departure which will only add to your 'misery' and thats not a great way to start a holiday. I've always found that ringing an airline 24 hours before departure ( they will probably not have your details before then) usually helps.

Being able to check in on line means I don't have to be at the airport until an hour or so before I fly rather than 3 hours - makes a lot of difference!

I tried when went to Costa Rica! The BA staff tried even gave me a code to try but both me an d them got "no can do" from the computer.

It is most annoying. Costs an extra night stay at Heathrow.

Even when I upgraded with JY to business class and on my own the booking was still under "Group booking" for some reason.

I think JY should sort this problem out so people can do online seat booking in this day and age.

Another aspect to this is the ability to get emergency exit/bulkhead seats, which have much more leg room.

I'm very tall, thus I would usually try to check in on line as soon as possible, as this is the only way to stand any chance of getting these seats. Even if you arrive very early at the airport you will find they are gone.

A further factor is that even if you have some kind of "frequent flyer" membership with the airline in question (often a criteria in allocation the "best" seats. becaus eof the group booking JY cannot register this against your name/booking.

Like most people on JY holidays, upgrading is not something I could financially consider, thus the way that JY use group bookings, and don't allow you to book you own flights, would make me seriously consider competitors where such an option is possible.
