Hi all,

I am currently single and have just turned 30! There are so many places i would like to visit and I'm fed up of waiting to meet someone to come with me but I'm quite shy and nervous about travelling alone. I would love to meet new people, are people open and friendly enough? What is the age range on these trips?

Is anyone going anywhere in the summer this year?

Sorry for all the questions!!

Hi Leanne,

Just spotted your post now - hope you see this reply!  People on JY tours are very friendly and mix well on the tours.  Inevitably some folks pair off as the holiday progresses, but you'll never feel excluded or on your own - unless you want to be.  If you're feeling particularly nervous I'd suggest that you book a holiday that is half board, that way everyone will be eating together in the evenings.  On tours that don't include dinner, people still often eat as a group (especially if the hotel is out of town or in a remote area), but some would probably head off and do their own thing.  The age range is 20s - 80s, with the majority being in the 55-75 age group.  I started travelling with JY the year I turned 40 and occasionally I've been the youngest - but this hasn't been a problem as everyone mixes so well and I've met some great people on JY tours that I still keep in touch with.  I'm trying to do as many long haul tours as I can at the moment - I'm booked to go to Borneo and Singapore in May, should be fantastic!  I think you are definitely doing the right thing - just study the brochure/website and go for a holiday that you really like the sound of!

Hope you book and have a brilliant time,

Bob

Hi,

My name is Noreen & I have booked the French & Italian Riviera tour from May 02nd - May 09th.

This is my first trip on my own ever since my husband died in 2011 & I feel sick at the thoughts of it.

Is anyone else booked onto this tour?

Hi Noreen

There is no need to feel sick at the thought of your first trip on your own. You will not be on your own when travelling with Just You. You will be with a group of like minded people. Of course, everyone is a bit nervous when doing something for the first time. You will be fine and have a great time. Just sit back, relax and enjoy yourself.

Hi All,

I have just returned from my first Just you holiday in France. It was fabulous! I was very nervous as I didn't know what to expect. We were so looked after. The tour guide (Lyn) was brilliant, she really made the holiday for us. I made lots of new friends. The hotel was exceptional. Luckily the weather was on our side and it was beautiful. This was my dream holiday to Monet's Garden and I was not disappointed!

Anyway if your thinking of taking the plunge, think no more, just book!

:)

Good to know about your travel experiences which would be useful for travellers here.

Hi, find this site difficult to follow. My Search criteria (Andalucias Golden Triangle) brings up nothing related in the slightest.Looking forward to my first JY tour 13th June from Manchester. About 3 yeqars ago took a Travelsphere tour to the Dordogne and Carcasonne which I enjoyed enormously. Hope that AndLUCIA'S gOLDEN tRIANGLE WORKS OUT AS WELL..Anyone else off to Andalucia on 13th June. Would have liked to go further afield but departures did not fit in with my private life. However I have always wanted to explore inland Spain away from the Costas. Any useful advice on Andalucia in mid-june would be welcomed.

You might be better posting this in the section called normal threads with the heading of your tour and date, people might answer you more from that, is this perhaps a new tour? That's why there isn't much information. Also unfortunately not every one uses the community forum.

How does this whole 2Group checking" thing go?

I've never done it this way before, so I don't know what documents I will have\need or where I should go.

Do I just take my passport and my luggage along to the rep and let them do everything else?

I'm a widowed lady and would love to make new friends and have a great holiday.  I've read some brilliant reviews of the Just You holidays and wonder if I could reach out to other 'newbies' who may not have booked yet as well as those who have already experienced Just You holidays.

I enjoy sailing, walking, badminton but am not super fit or a fanatic!  I'd really appreciate some recommendations from you lovely people.  I am thinking of going on or just after my birthday on 12th June and have never been to Croatia and have only had one brief holiday in Italy.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello all,

I have recently been widowed after my wife lost her long struggle with cancer.  I don't have any kids and need to, I hate the term, 'find myself'.  So I am looking to get away soon on what would be my first solo trip.  I am ex army so I'm used to travelling I'm still young in myself and pretty fit and I want to go and join a group where I can meet people preferably with options to be active.  I want to get it right though.  I have always been with my wife or in a group of colleagues when I have gone away but I have never travelled alone before.  I am a bit concerned that I find the right group as in age ranges, (I don't want to be the youngest) and the right trip.

Any suggestions would be great. 🙂

Sorry only just seen your posting, I have been on many holidays with JY I tend to pick the full on tours where your in the go, I hope you have booked somewhere by now for your birthday. Just read what is offered on each tour you are interested in, and see if there are reviews from people, I started using JY in 2006 and I have travelled the world now...

Welcome to the world of JY. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your wife, I can only imagine how daunting single travel would feel.

My suggestions to you would be, where do you want to go? What do you want to do? How far do you want to travel? Then once you have a tour in mind really look what's on offer, meals excursions. Etc.

I have travelled from Austria to Kenya to New Zealand and many USA tours, I tend to pick full on day tours to keep me busy. Other people want a relaxing chilled holiday it's up,to you. You can always look at the review section to see what people say. You also can post on the editors board a tour date and name and Julia can give you the amount of people booked age range and M/F split etc. There are usually more ladies than men but we all muck in together. Do not let age put you off, there will be young and old all together it really does work very well. Any questions just ask.

Hi AI5694 & Adventure 2016

Welcome to JY.  I have just complete my 7th JY holiday and the best advice I can give you re your first holiday is to choose a destination and style of holiday that suits you then you will immediately be among like minded people.  Some people jump in at the deep end and immediately go long haul.  I started small with Monet's Garden, somewhere I had always wanted to go - a short trip and not too far from home and it worked perfectly.  Read the itinerary carefully - half day excursions are typically 4-5 hours - a full day excursion may mean that amount of time travelling by coach.  If you want a lazy holiday choose an Escape - an Explore is usually one centre as a base and excursions out with varying free time in the base hotel.  Tour holidays usually mean living out of a suitcase and may include internal flights depending on the destination country.

As to age groups, age is a number.  The friend I met at Monet's Garden is 80 next year and has more get up and go than many younger people I meet.  Most holidays have a spread of ages but predominantly in my experience it will be early to late 60's with usually a greater proportion of women than men.

Good luck and I hope you have a great holiday wherever you decide to travel.

Thanks for the replies but I think I'm too young for just you.  As I said I don't mind a mix of ages but if the range is as you say early to late 60's up then that's is too old for a 43 year old to tag onto.

Dear A15694,

As everyone else said, age is just a number!

Here at Just You we don't operate holidays based on age ranges, and it works!

Although the majority of our customers are 50+, we are seeing an increase of customers of a younger age (in their 30s and 40s)

I'd be more than happy to assist you further with this should you like to book a holiday with us.

I really hope you do, it is a great way to "find yourself" ... with the only risk that you'll become addicted like many of the others here on the Community :)

Kindest regards,

Elisa

I've just returned from a JY tour, and I'm only 36. I had a wonderful time.

When you're sight seeing age isn't really a factor.

I'm 44 and just about to go on my 13th JY holiday. I am occassionally the youngest but not by much. If you pick an 'adventurous' holiday ie a touring long distance destination you will find other 30/40 year olds. You will also find those that are older in years are still young at heart and in spirit. If you see something you like the look of either ask the Moderator or phone the office and they will tell you the age range already booked. Why not give it a go - you might be pleasantly surprised.....!

I really think you will miss out, we choose a holiday for the destination and its the safe way to travel. You see so much and do so much they really are great tours..

I started using JY in 2006 I am now 57 age has never been a problem I have been away with people in their 20's or 80's talking to people and hearing their conversations is part of life's rich tapestry, you can be young but be old or old and be young...I worry more about the fitness, I have been out walked by 70 years olds...age is a number, I love being in a mixed age range.

If you have your eye in a tour post on the editors board the place and date and they should be able to give M/f ratio age range how many are going etc....

Personally I would say give it a go, if it's not for you, you don't have to do it again.

I'm about to leave on my first Just You holiday to Tuscany on 23 June, its a bit daunting, as I had always travelled as part of a couple before my husband passed away. Nevertheless i'm still looking forward to it and hope to post some positive feedback on my return. Maureen
