I am going to book Spirit of India but feel very scared as i have never done this before. I realise most people have a first time but it is quite daunting.

Hi.

My first JY trip was to China in 2010. This has been followed by five other long haul trips and three european holidays. I have done both the Spirit of India and Kerala trips and they were very enjoyable. I am still a bit apprehensive as I set off on each holiday but soon relax when I get to the airport!

My advice is life is too short-go for it!

Hi Sue, good for you for taking the plunge!  The Spirit of India tour is a terrific one - I did it when it first started back in 2012. It is a hectic, full on tour with some very early starts but it is worth it as you will see the very best of northern India.  Be prepared for a culture shock, with crowds, noise, litter and some unpleasant smells(!) but you will have an amazing time.  Seeing the Taj Mahal close up was even better than I thought it would be - the stonework is stunning.  And we were lucky to have a very close encounter with a tiger (actually a tigress) in Ranthambore - I got some fantastic photos.  Varanasi was a unique experience.  All the hotels were great, there was a wide variety of food (usually buffet style) so if you're not mad on spicy food, you will still have plenty of choice.  Bring lots of sun cream, mosquito repellent and some Imodium Instants in case you have a dodgy tummy for a day or two!

Any questions, feel free to ask - this is one of JY's most popular tours so you won't be short of advice.

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Sue

Spirit of India was my  first JY trip and I absolutely loved it. I was actually on the same trip as Bob and agree with all he says. You are so well looked after right from the UK airport onwards and there is a good chance you will meet up with fellow travellers even before you're on the plane so you won't feel alone for very long at all. India really is an eye opener but it's great to be sharing that experience with like minded people.

On reflection, that holiday seemed to open up the world for me and I've since been to some wonderful places with JY, South Africa being the favourite and currently am getting excited about going to Kenya in September. They are places I wouldn't have dreamed of going to solo before discovering JY. It's understandable to be apprehensive for your first solo trip but I promise all that will be forgotten as soon as you're on your way.

Go ahead and book it now, you be so glad you did.

Best wishes Sue

ps. there's nearly always several Sue's on these holidays!!

You will not regret booking. I'm sure you will have a fabulous time. Varanasi is a really spiritual place and a definite eyeopener.

Hi, Im going on Spirit of India trip on 2nd October. My question is what size suitcase would be advisable? I think my large one will be difficult to lug around getting on trains boats etc? Or maybe not? My hand luggage will be too small for 2 weeks in that heat as will need a few changes but a large one might be too big?? Thank you. Wendy

Hi

When I did this trip in 2012 I took a fairly large case(28inches) with wheels and do not remember having much trouble handling my suitcase. There was certainly porter service available at stations and they brought cases from the coach to the train. The Tour Manager very efficiently supervised loading and unloading of luggage throughout the tour.

This is a wonderful holiday and I am sure you will enjoy the experience.
