Hi everyone, I have already flown on a small plane over the Grand Canyon (JYs Americas Golden West tour) and, while it was exciting being my first time in a small plane, I wasn't that thrilled about the scenery. Primarily because I wasn't given a choice of where to sit on the plane and ended up with poor views going out and returning. I didn't mind too much on the way out as I thought I would get a chance to see everything on the return journey but people were shuffled around to compensate for new passengers/weight requirements etc. on the return and I ended up on the 'wrong' side again (we didn't get to negotiate with the pilot :)). The helicopter into the Canyon was a totally different experience with absolutely amazing scenery. My question is, for those of you who have already flown over the Grand Canyon and over Monument Valley, are the views over Monument Valley really fab from either side of the plane. It's a lot of money to pay if it's just the luck of the seating draw again!!!! Thx Sue

Hi Sue I did the Monument Valley flight last Sept and it was fantastic! A little bumpy at times in a small cessna, but we all had window seats and we all got amazing views. We flew over Monument Valley itself and I got some great photos that I wouldn't have got otherwise. We then flew over the former Glen Canyon, Marble Canyon, Lake Powell, Rainbow Bridge before arriving at the Grand Canyon itself. It gave me a great insight into how the whole area is linked together by incredible rock formations and canyons. If you only want to do a couple of flights on the National Parks tour, I strongly recommend you do this flight and the Grand Canyon helicopter flight. The other great bit of news I have for you is that on the NP tour you go to the south rim of the Grand Canyon (on the Golden West tour you visit the west rim) and the south rim is far superior - we had a couple of hours to walk through the various paths for spectacular views.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Bob

Thanks Bob, very helpful as usual! Think I will be booking the MV flight. It's probably going to be a while before I get the actual holiday itinerary showing timings of excursions etc. (I haven't even booked the holiday yet but I hope to, as soon as 2015 dates are available). Just wanted to decide whether I needed to build that extra c.£250 for the flight into my budget and you've convinced me it will be worth it! Sue
