Hi there,

I have just joined this website as I received the brochure.

I am a 29 year old guy who is interested in a couple of the holidays, i.e. New York, Texas & New Orleans.

I can see in the just you brochure that the Texas & New Orleans 11 days cost is £2399 for the 12th September, however in the Travelsphere brochure which I also have, the Texas & New Orleans trip is £1799 + £350 single room supplement on the 18th September.

Is there really a reason for the difference in price as Travelsphere is a sister company? I think it is virtually the same holiday. Anybody else come across this?

I have read people's posts on here concerning age, and it did definitely worry me, but I like to think I can blend in, although I am not much of a drinker!

I can't comment on the reason for the difference in price between a Just You holiday and a Travelsphere one. I've never been away with Travelsphere but have done 6 Just You ones so far, with another two booked for this year. I know there are others who have done both types of holiday and may therefore be able to advise you on this.

Your comments about age and not being much of a drinker do surprise me, though. From the comments that have been made on the Forum and from my own experience of the holidays, I don't recall there being anything to worry anyone about age. And where you get the impression that one has to be a drinker to fit in leaves me speechless!

Hi neil67, i am 27 and i started using JY when i was 23/24. You are right not to worry, age really isnt a factor on these holidays as you'll quickly find that everybody is simply out to have a good time!

With regards to your particular question, ultimately the editors will be able to anmswer your question however the difference is normally saccouinted for what trips and meals are included. Also, JY does not necessarily use the same hotel as Travelsphere so that may be also account for the difference.

Thanks

Mark

Hi Neil,

This is a point that I've seen raised a few times on various holidays and it does make you feel you are paying for been single and travelling with others the same. I personally wouldn't do a couples holiday as a solo traveller but at same time dont want to be robbed.

Looking at your figures it appears there is a £250 difference so allowing a bit (say £30) for going a week later the question is what do you get extra for £220.

I've had a look at the holidays and the only differences i can see is that you get 9 breakfasts instead of 5. You also get a welcome drink and dinner on the JY trip. However on the travelsphere holiday you get a Mexican reception with live band in san antonio so that possibly cancels out the dinner (or part of it).

So he question is 4 breakfasts and a welcome drink worth £220 ? I think not.

Not sure if I've missed anything but would be interesting to hear Julia's comments and JY reasons for the big difference.

Hi

I think even though it says in Just You brochures that there are no single room supplement perhaps you do end up paying a bit more for the rooms. I do not mind as the room you usually get is a big double room. Years ago when I used to travel with my sister and brother despite paying a hefty single supplement, he always ended up with a tiny room in a corner. The rooms we get with Just You are really nice. I personally don't think Just You are robbing us!!

I agree with what jaya says regarding the rooms, on one of the NZ hotels I had two doubles and a single bed !!! Spoilt for choice....

My. Mother in law has travelled with married friends not with travel sphere and has paid single supplement and she has stayed in some dire rooms...

I might be wrong but I don't think TS provide breakfast? Or many meals ? I might be wrong in that one, any rate I would rather pay a few more!!! £ and be with a total single solo traveller group than being with the couples?..

just my thoughts ..

Cindy,

Yes normally breakfasts are not provided by travelsphere but on this specific holiday they provide them on 5 of the mornings so only 4 without. £200+ seems a lot for what extras you get in this case, perhaps I've missed something extra thats included.

As for rooms I dont think too many modern hotels have single rooms nowadays and the single supplement is for one person using a double room instead of a paying couple.

I've had single beds on a JY holiday (Austrian Lakes), yes there was two in the room but one wasn't made was just the mattress.

Agree I wouldn't do a couples holiday as a single but still think prices should match up.

Hi Mark,

I'm glad to read your response. It does reassure me. I think what seems good about JY is that everyone is kind of in the same boat.

You may be right about JY using different hotels compared to Travelsphere, although on the Texas holiday they are the same so makes this interesting.

I suppose you could say the extra cost is for being around fellow single travellers.

Hi Mick,

I agree with you as I would also not go on a couple's holiday by myself.

I agree with the points you mentioned regarding the holidays and what you get in them as I checked in the brochures.

It does seem you pay extra with JY for basically travelling by yourself.

I guess it is what it is. Oh well a holiday with other people travelling by themselves means you all have something in common.

Hi Jaya,

Yes paying extra for better quality is fine by me.

Overall I suppose it may be worth it.

Hi folks, apart from the points already made here regarding TS v. JY prices, I'd also add - don't forget JY have to strike a deal with each hotel for single occupancy for each tour and in some cases this price could be higher than booking a number of rooms for double occupancy plus a few at the single rate. All it would take is for one or two hotels along the tour route to play hardball and JY would have to make the decision to scrap the tour or amend it substantially, or put the price up accordingly. Hope you see what I mean.

I've compared a lot of TS and JY tours in the last few years. Mostly there is little difference between the TS price incl. single supplement and the JY price - and the difference is usually accounted for by more included excursions and meals. Where there is a difference I'm sure it's down to the logistics of block booking rooms for single occupancy and the knock-on effect this has for the revenue the hotel would make from breakfasts etc. I know from correspondence with JY that they do their very best to keep their prices down and to compare as favourably as possible with TS prices, but sometimes it's not possible and tough decisions have to be made!

Cheers,

Bob

Hi I do think that you do have to pay extra with Just You even though it says no single supplement.

Its just for travelling alone I know someone who always goes with Travelshere as its cheaper and she as never had any problems with the hotels. I would rather go with just you as don't want to be on holiday with all couples
