Hi, Iv'e just joined. Im 49 and now single, my 50th in October, was going to mexico with my partner but relationship didn't work out. I'd still like to go away and do something with like minded people but never gone on holiday on my own before, my kids will be at university at time. Haven't booked yet cause still unsure, how was your first experience of just you? from what I can see online it's best around

If you have been reading the forum you will have seen that seasoned single travellers (like me!) will all give the same advice - ie go for it! Most people travelling alone for the first time - for whatever reason - are understandably apprehensive. There's no need to be. Checking in at the airport is the hardest part, and there is usually a Just You rep to help you. Everyone is so friendly. Just choose somewhere that interests you and book. I am sure you will have a great time.

Hi,

I've been on 2 tours with Just You And thoroughly enjoyed them. It's a safe way of meeting New people as well as having a good holiday.

Not been with Just You for a few years but have booked a break for next year so looking forward to it.

The first time I was a little anxious but that went as soon as got to the airport.

Hope you all have a great time on your tours.

Two years ago I was in the same position as many of you, having lost my husband in February 2012. A had never travelled alone, or even for that matter lived alone. I am in my mid-70's. I found JY and other singles holiday companies through an internet search and booked my first holiday with JY. Why I chose JY - I don't really know. Perhaps it was the choice of holidays, no single supplement, connection from my local airport, it just felt right.

I was so scared a few days before departure that I almost asked my doctor to sign me off sick so that I did not have to go and claim on the insurance! Sense prevailed because I really knew that she wouldn't do it.

You are really "on your own" until you get to the departure airport. Unless of course you have someone to travel with you, or take you to the airport. From there on you will have as much or as little company as you wish.

Fellow travellers are there for the same reason you are - it is somewhere they want to visit. Whether it is for the sights, architecture, history, food, culture, you have that in common at check-in.

I am so glad that I didn't call off that first holiday to France which was in May, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The age range, which was from about mid 30's to 80 really didn't matter, in fact I booked another for September to Calabria and thoroughly enjoyed that as well.

I have two holidays booked this year - though only one with JY, simply because JY do not go where I want to for the other trip.

In my limited experience JY's tour managers have been fantastic. The second hotel was far and away better than the first, but the first was very, very good.

Organisation from departure airport - resort(s) - return airport is smooth. Everything is done for you.

All you have to do is choose - read any reviews on the forum that you can find - book - pay - turn up - ENJOY!!

If anyone wants to contact me "off forum" JY have my email address.

Happy travelling.

Sylvia

HI Everyone - My name is Tony and I'm going on my first holiday on my own to Turkey on October 12th. My wife has advanced Alzheimer's and is in a care home. If anyone else on this website is going on this holiday perhaps they could post a reply. Tony

I too am new and contemplating the Christmas in Iceland holiday. Has this been done before, anyone done it??

I did new year in Iceland 2013. I had a really good time, it's roughly the same itinerary so if you wanna know anything in particular let me know. Think it's the first time it has been done for Xmas.

Thanks for that info. I am wondering about what clothes to take. cold weather stuff obviously, but what about evenings, and eating out away from hotel. Did you do the optional trip s and were they worth it. How tiring is it.

Hello Tony,

If you put a posting up in the section that says normal threads using Turkey 12th October any one going.....you might get more of a response. Not everyone looks in this section of the postings daily.

I have been in many JY tours but not this one, if you have any questions about travelling with JY, just ask I am sure one of us can help you. I have met others like yourself who have a partner in a home or respite care, so your not alone.

I was reassured by your 'post' I lost my beloved husband last November and felt that at 67 my life was finished.

I am now looking with interest at the holidays and hope that there would be a nice mixture of ages and that friendliness.

Like you, I am still very nervous about venturing alone and get butterflies even thinking about it but I hope to gather my courage and do it. The holidays look fantastic.

Hi Isabel

Don't think too much. Just pick a destination and book it. Life is too short to waste time worrying about little things. Of course, one is always nervous and apprehensive taking the first step, but just think of the excitement and adventure waiting for you. I do hope you will find a holiday that you want to book.

Regards

Jaya

Well I've just joined.

I stumbled across Just You as I was searching the internet for something that would suit my needs. My husband died last year... we'd planned to go to Australia/New Zealand when we both retired this year. I still want to fulfill that ambition and the holiday offerered by JY seems perfect (if a little long!)

Just need to pluck up the courage now. Reading all the posts is really encouraging.

I have been in the JY NZ tour a couple of years ago and can recommend this tour I did leave a review so have a look at what I said or others have, I have been to Australia I was booked with JY but the tour was cancelled I couldn't change dates so went independently great country...so if you have any questions then just ask I have been using JY since 2006 and this year will be doing my 10th tour with 11th booked for next year.

I hope you get to fulfil your dream in memory of your husband.
