As a first time single traveller I am in need of some advice from those well seasoned single travellers. I am looking to spending Christmas in either Sorrento or Lake Como this year and I am hoping that some of you have either done either of these holidays already or are planning to do one this year, so any pointers you can offer would be invaluable. I am a very young early fifties and I really want to get as much out of this holiday as possible, especially as it is my first trip alone and I am already feeling very nervous about the whole idea. If you can pass on some words of wisdom, or are in fact in the same position, then I would be more than happy to hear from you.

Welcome, can I assure you that this is a great and safe way to travel. I have not been on the tours you mention of a Christmas tour, I hope that someone that has answers you. What I can say is that I shall this week be booking my 10th JY tour I am 54 and started using JY in 2006. I have seen the world and enjoyed the tours and meeting all the people along the way, I have also pushed myself and been on helicopters, power boats! and seen and done many things along the way! amazing and also had many many laughs with the people I have met.

please do not let your nerves put you off every one feels butterflies even me!! But once you get going and arrive all will be well.

have fun and if there is anything else I can help with just ask.

Hello I am also thinking of a first holiday abroad, but am considering Austria and the lakes as I have never been and don't fancy days beside a pool. If anyone has been and has some advice or whatever, would love to hear- what time of year is best?

I went on the Austrian Lake tour a few years ago, its a very nice tour and not to hectic, but you still have such a lot to see.Lovely hotel just by the lake, I was lucky enough to have a room overlooking this beautiful view. There is NO lift in this hotel, and the room are either up 1 or 2 flights of stairs, no porter either so its a case of lifting the cases, we were lucky enough to have a couple of very nice men who did lift certain ladies luggage up for them. I think I went about May time? and the weather was very pleasant. If you like taking photos on this tour you will not be dissapointed. Tean and coffe facilitys in room and TV I had a double bed and a single? so plenty of space. Lovely little cafe coffee place near by to chill out after you have been out and enjoy a icecream etc and watch the world go by.

The other short haul tour I have been on which was also very nice was Tuscany Highlights..

If there is anything else I can help with just ask.

Hello Leeta,

I went to Lake Como for Christmas last year and it was superb!

The hotel is excellent, lovely old Italian family villa bought and refurbished (at great expense) by the new English owner and his Italian wife. Murano glass chandelier in the dining room Tiffany lamps dotted about and plenty of chairs/couches to relax on.

The Christmas Day dinner was excellent and every single client in the hotel received a Christmas present, courtesy of the owner and his wife.

The tours are wonderful, Bellagio on Christmas Eve, over the lake by boat but the piece de resistance has to be the trip to St Moritz on the special train. Through the snowfields and ski slopes, unbelievably beautiful.

If you decide to take this trip, I do hope you have Richard Lord as your Tour Manager. He is the star of JYs Tour Managers.

Good luck in your hunt and I hope you find something you enjoy ~~ every trip I've been on (9 and counting) has been great, lovely mix of people and ages.

Just decide where you would really like to visit and book. You won't regret it.

Denise.

Hi Leeta, I have been on a few singles holidays, I still get quite nervous but once you realize that everyone feels the same you relax and really enjoy the holiday. I have been on the Sorrento holiday (albeit a few years ago) but not at Christmas. I thoroughly enjoyed it and is a holiday I would gladly go on again. I lot to see and a really beautiful area. I'm sure you will thoroughly enjoy it should you decide on the Sorrento holiday. The single traveller holidays are a good way to see wonderful places in good company. Enjoy.

Sorry just had a tech glitch, something you won't have by taking the Just You plunge, I did in September, best decision I've taken. Nerves are par for the course but within hours you won't even remember them. Just be yourself, enjoy every minute and trust your tour manager, ours was brilliant. I am sure you are going to have a wonderful memorable Christmas and come home with fabulous memories. Good luck.

Hi Julie

I have just returned from this trip. It was a great mixture of city and country experiences. Boston is an interesting city and I loved the Cape Cod trip. The journey through New Hampshire and Vermont was beautiful. The various cities in Canada are all different. Quebec was my favourite . Seeing Niagara Falls was special and the optional meal at the Sheraton is well worth it as you see the falls up close. New York is unique and not to be missed.

Have a great time next year. Hope this has helped

Hi Leeta

I have been to both Sorrento and Lake Como years ago, but not with Just You. Both are lovely destinations and I am sure you will have a great time whichever you choose. Travelling with Just You is fantastic. You do not have to worry about anything as everything is taken care of.

Regards

Hello Leeta,

I have been to Sorrento with Just You in September, and the Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful places in the world with plenty to see. I wish we had been in a better hotel than the 3star with poor food, but that would have been more expensive.

I have had several Christmas holidays with Just You, and this year will be with them in Lake Como in a 4star hotel. I'm looking forward to it very much.

Try not to think of yourself as travelling alone. You are travelling with a party, some of whom will want the company, while others might be more independent and go off on their own except for evening meals. Some of them will be as nervous as you, others less so. All of them will want a good holiday that gives them their money's worth. I think Just You always provides that.
