Joining with all the other newbies to say I am nervous. Don't travel alone much, very little travel abroad, but always wanted to. Hubby not interested, so I am going to "go it alone" ... sort of. This Forum suggest I will find like minded travellers.

So first holiday alone, first (nearly) trip abroad, probably first visit to airport (if Gatwick). First time with the (whatever it is) currency.

Have a week to spare in November ... ... Turkey or Jordan?

First time posting in a Forum ... Successful!

Thank-you Cindy.

The speed and the warmth of your reply makes me feel the journey has already started.

Hi MaryDee

Hello and Welcome to Just You community. You have come to the right place. I have done the Jordan trip - in fact it was my first Just You trip. I would recommend Jordan. I have not yet been to Turkey but am sure you will have a lovely time if you do decide to go there. I would just say go ahead and book the trip you fancy.

Thanks Jaya

That's really helpful1 Was thinking maybe Jordan was a bit too adventurous for a first trip. But if it worked out OK for you, then I shall definitely consider it. It's a bit close to Syria?? Anyway ... I can't book until next week ... ... and a week's a long time in ... something or other. Good to hear from you.

Hi MaryDee,

There are many people in your situation however i can honestly say i have never heard of a first timer being disappointed. A lot of the people that travel with JY have partners, and so your situation is not uncommon. Your may be initially traveling on your own but yo are not alone! You will see other JY travellers by the luggage tags and i am sure you will make friends quickly!

Bonne Chance!

Afternoon Mary Dee,

Yet another welcome to JY Community. You really have made a great start on your first journey into this wonderful holiday world. I've not done either of these trips, so can't really advise you. However, I have had 9 holidays with JY (USA and Europe) and would now not dream of going with another company.

I would suggest you take a good look at the brochure, compare the Turkey holiday with the Jordan one, decide which one appeals the most, go ahead and book it!!!

You'll have a great time, meet some wonderful people and wonder why you didn't take the plunge before.

Good luck in your decision.

Regards,

Denise

Hello,

First trip with Just You was 3 years ago next week to Jordan, Sinai and Cairo. They have now split it into 2 holidays. Loved Jordan- Petra had been on my bucket list for so long. Jerash is the only problem being near the border with Syria- on the old Roman road to Damascus I think.

If you look there was a discussion with someone doing the tour soon.

Not been to Turkey but it is on my list, too many tours that I want to do first 🙂

There are too many tours that I would like to win a big lottery so that I did not need to work and just go on tour after tour :P

Thanks Jan ...really helpful... got me looking through posts (discovered the "search" facility) and found a lot to reassure me. Looks like Jordan tours are still happening at the moment. and you did it as a first timer and were not put off .... sounds good!

I have booked!

All your replies were really helpful, thank-you ... and I am off to Jordan on November 16th.

Feeling really elated to have made the decision and made the booking.

But will start getting anxious as the date gets nearer. Anyone else going?

Will be looking out for all the blue luggage labels at Heathrow!

Hi Mary Dee

Well done! You will have a wonderful time in Jordan. The itinerary is a little bit different from the trip I did - we did not go to Aquaba but we had an option of a three day add on at the Dead Sea Marriott which was lovely.

Have a wondeful time.

Think Summer for clothes and a jumper for the night. We were in Jordan end of September and I believe it was 42 degrees by the Dead Sea. Sun tan lotion, sun hat and sunglasses are a must. The only time I was bitten was at Nuweiba on the Sinai Peninsula. Take Piriton and Anti- histamine cream. :)

I went to Jordan in September and it was very hot. I did not take anything for mosquitos - didn't think there were any around the places we visited. I doubt if there will be much difference in termperatures so it should be pretty hot. I think I took about £200 in Jordanian dinars plus my credit card. You are in for a good time!

Thank-you .... sort of along the lines of what I was thinking, plus girl in JY call centre had been in November and said much the same. Don't even go out in UK without anti-histamine ... me and horseflies don't get on! Fortunately i)anticipating Jordan to be horsefly free and ii) they have trained me well for the insect world.

Enjoying the planning .... not got around to being anxious about going yet!

Thank-you. Helpful girl at JY call centre had been in November and gave me much the same advice about cash, so I have a really good idea of what I am doing now!

Enjoying the planning .... will soon get anxious about the actual going bit, but the support from the forum is great!
