Hi everyone!

I'm a 24-year-old female based in the North of England, looking to travel for the first time by myself. I'm very excited as well as nervous about this prospect! After coming out of a six year relationship at Christmas, I feel ready to tackle the world again, and thought a holiday would be a great way to reward my hardwork and give my confidence a much-needed boost.

Any hints, tips, or suggested destinations for a novice single traveller would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time - I look forward to getting to know you all. 🙂

Good for you Sarah! I hope you have a lot of fun choosing your first holiday. I suggest you scroll down the Reviews and Share your Travel Tips sections for some advice and have a look at the great range of holidays to help you make your choice. I suppose the first question you need to ask yourself is if you want to go to somewhere in Europe or further afield? I went on the Treasures of Andalucia tour for my first JY holiday, as I wasn't sure what to expect and didn't want to travel too far, just in case things didn't work out. I needn't have worried! I had a great holiday and have travelled on four more JY hols since including South Africa, India and Vietnam/Cambodia. So the world's your oyster - go for it!

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Sarah

welcome to the forum, maybe you could take a short break first to see if you like it and see how you get on, i have been a member for just over a month now and to what i have seen everyone on here seem genuine and friendly, i used to travel a lot on my own many years ago and i did meet new friends through the experience, i like you have had a rough time recently and decided to take the plunge and join JY, i am going to Australia later in the year

as Bob said 'go for it' it'll make your world a lot brighter

all the best

Dave

Hello Sarah!

Good for you 🙂 that you have decided to grasp the opportunity to

travel within a safe environment, as well as enjoy the benefits of seeing other countries !

Congratulate yourself - as I did when (at 55!), I realised I should have done it sooner - it was a learning curve for me for 2 reasons:

a) I had been receiving JY brochures through the post for 5 years(!),

before I had the confidence to book a holiday(to Tuscany) and needn`t have worried - it was a great experience !

b) I learned heaps about myself as a person and met other confident women on the trip ,who gained their strength from taking the plunge with JY !

I highly recommend JY to you, and yes, there will be people older than you on your prospective holiday - but it doesn`t matter because everyone socialises 🙂

If you decide to book a trip, I look forward to your review on the community site - life`s for living, make the most of it !

P.s. By travelling with JY , I also hope to I demonstrate to my 2 grown-up children that there`s a wide world out there to explore, even if relationships go `pear-shaped ` !

Regards,

Janet

Hi Sarah

Good for you to get out of a long-term relationship which wasn't 'right' for you.

I was married for 23 yrs and now 5yrs single I have booked my first JY holiday in October, I am going to the Austrian Lakes. Excited and extremely nervous would describe me to a T :lol

Whatever you decide I'm sure that you will enjoy it, and from reading the threads in this forum I'm certain you will meet many new friends.

Hi Sarah

I agree with Bob just go for it! I went on my first Jy holiday four years ago. I chose China-always wanted to see the Great Wall- and it was a great introduction to travelling on my own. On this holiday all meals are taken with fellow travellers which is a great way of getting to know people. Have also done west coast of America and India. This year am doing New England and Canada.

Hope you enjoy whichever holiday you decide to book

Hi Sarah,I was nervous and full of self doubt but took the plunge and I have just booked my first JY holiday and choose the golden west usa tour, my reasoning was if it all goes pear shaped at least they speak the same language. No matter which holiday you choose i am sure you will have a great time and glad to hear you are ready to get on with your life.

Hi Sarah,

I went on my first tour on 31st January 2013 to Thailand. Loved it so much as soon as I got home I was looking for my next trip. I have now booked to go to Florida on 5th Sept. Every one, no matter of age, got on so well it was amazing as I don't make friends easily but felt so part of "the family" from day one. Hope you manage to find a trip soon, you never know what or who is round the corner......Enjoy

Hi Sarah,

Last week I booked my first solo trip on the 'Highlights of Tuscany' tour for the 13th June of this year. I have read in the forum that this is a relaxed trip to ease you in but I guess it would depend on what you like and when you're available to travel.

I'm glad you have finally got the courage to do this - I, myself am excited to see new things and make new friends and wish you the very best in it all.

Hello Sarah,

Welcome to the Forum.

I am going on the Cilento Coast tour in June. This will be my fourth holiday with Just You. There are a variety of tours. I would suggest that you choose a tour that interests you. I would reiterate that you will not be on your alone unless you wish to be and will be well looked after from start to finish.

I hope the plunge and good luck with your travels.

Mel

Ps I cannot wait to get away to Italy in June. All reports say that the tour is a really good one. You can relax on the beach and do some touring as well.

Oh Janet that is all so true. I turn 55 next week and after being divorced last year i have never had so much fun and freedom it seems all of a sudden the whole world is at my feet. i am going to do the "inspirational china" this year, not sure which date yet. I'm jumping in with both feet first as I can get on with just about anyone and have no worries at all about my first single holiday. This forum has made me feel welcome already

Hi Sarah,

Welcome to the forum.

Its difficult to suggest a holiday as not sure what you would prefer (beach, touring, activity, etc) but just suggest reading up about the holidays and go with your instincts.

I've got my 9th & 10th JY holidays booked and enjoyed a good variation of holidays, not done a bad one, they are all well organised.

Would say in your 20's you are likely to be the youngest on the trip but age isn't a issue if you are comfortable with that. I've found the vast majority of travellers are 50 upwards although there is usually a few younger, certainly had people in their 20's on a few trips. I'll add all ages seem to get on great on these holidays and wouldn't let possibly been the youngest put you off.

Hi Sarah

Well it looks like you have had a good welcome. Now where and when to go, resort or touring etc. I suppose that depends on how much money you have to spend.

I go on my first Just You holiday in May to Texas although I have travelled on my own with Travelsphere etc. I find the touring holidays are good value for money especially USA west coast (at least there is no language barrier). Every day there is something new to see and enjoy.

I believe the younger members tend to go on the long haul holidays as opposed to Europe but no doubt I will be proved wrong!! But as everyone says age is just a number.

All the best in choosing a holiday but before you finally choose get a feedback from the forum.

Hello Val,

All the best.

Hello and welcome Sarah

Do not let age put you off booking a Just You holiday - after all age is just a number. I have done 4 Just You holidays and each one has been a fantastic experience. When I first decided to travel on my own, I picked Jordan as I always wanted to see Petra. Just decide on a destination you always wanted to see and book it. You will have a great time with Just You as you are looked after from start to finish. You will meet people of all ages and share their life experiences. When I went to Jordan we had a couple of ladies in their early 20s.

Good luck.

I had my first JY holiday last October in Tuscany. My one big mistake? Taking lots of books so I could spend time in my room reading if I wanted to be alone! I hadn't laughed so much for a long time - it was all so easy and friendly. With a group age range of 28 - 83, the group melded together through thick and thin. We were a rather accident and incident prone lot and I think that Jonathan, our rep, was put to the test (and was probably glad to see the back of us!) but everyone mucked in helping and supporting each other. I think everyone had a wonderful time and I came back with great memories of one of my best holidays ever.

Go with an open mind and a friendly smile - you won't go wrong. I look forward to seeing posts about how much you enjoyed your first JY holiday!

PS I have now booked for Apulia in October and can't wait.

Hi, Good girl for taking control.Because your so young I would have a word with customer services or Ben and try and get on a hol with a good mix of age.Maybe America.I've done Spain and Italy, mainly age was average 50's.Unless it wouldn't bother you.Nearly everyone is very young minded anyway !!!!
