Hi All

Flying into Heathrow on evening of 14th and have just booked into Arora Hotel. Seemed to get decent reviews so if anyone's stayed before and hated it, don't tell me!!

Arriving after 8pm so probably too late to meet up with anyone, unless they're staying in same hotel, so will get to meet you all at check-in - does anyone know if we get access to a lounge in Heathrow before our flight?

Hi Moneybags,

Thank you on advice

This sounds ideal.I will certainly look into booking into this hotel then.I hear how good Premier Inn hotels are,but never stayed in one.So I will book this for the overnight stay.

Hi Caroline, I've stayed at the Arora before it's lovely. Great buffet breakfast in the morning too. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. It's within the airport complex so a load of aeroplane staff stay there and the hoppa bus is free to Terminal 4. Change there then for Terminal 5, either bus or tube.

Hi Nicholas - thanks for the info on the Arora and on the shuttle bus; I'd been wondering about that so it saves me having to post another question! Caroline

Thanks Moneybags,

Thanks very much on your advice on the Premier Inn.I have booked as soon as I read your first message the other day and booked on Booking.com.It cost about 57 for a double room including breakfast.Im very happy with that,as even back in 2008,the Comfort Hotel was charging back then 99 pound for room only.

Thanks as well on advice on not buying in the terminal building.

Look forward to meeting you too.Cant wait for our trip.Im counting the weeks!

Hi everyone,

I just thought I'd introduce myself as I'm also going on the Golden West trip in April. I'm a JY first timer and so excited about the trip. I've never been to the west coast and I can't wait! I'm based in London so I'll be getting to Heathrow on the morning that we fly - hopefully see some of you on the flight!

See you soon.

As Andrew has said, your very welcome to join us at the hotel.I look forward to meeting you.

I dont know what Im doing the first night either but I admit Im not into Alcatraz, but I think a few others on here have shown interest.

Im not doing the Universal Studios either as that does not appeal at all.Though I like the look of the other excursions

Im counting the weeks and days.I really cannot wait! :)

Hi my name is Sharon I am 35. I am going on the trip on the 15th April. I am really looking forward to it. This will be my first time to America and first time I have been on holiday on my own.

Is anyone thinking of going to Alcatraz, as this is something I definitely want to do ?

Looking forward to it already

Sharon R x

Hi Sharon, I'd like to see Alcatraz too. Not too sure how to book though. I'm going to wait until January and then decide whether or not to book in advance. Scared of losing my money if something goes wrong!!! Sue

Hi Sue, I am going to try and find out which day we have free to do it as some days already include a excursion. If I find out i will post it on here. If anyone already knows please let me know.

Thanks Sharon R

Hi Sue and Sharon. I've booked the Alcatraz trip for 1pm on the Tuesday 16 April. That should be enough time after the morning city tour to go over there. I booked it through www.alcatrazislandtickets.com. $38 altogether.

Hi,

Has anyone looked at other excursions / things to do, while we are there?

I would like to do the CSI interactive tour, also what about shows in Vegas? I don't quite fancy Brat Pack, Does anyone have any other ideas?

Also for the ladies, when in LA we have to do 'pretty woman' down Rodeo Drive :D

Let me know your thoughts :)

thanks

Jac

Hello Jac, where did you read about the CSI Interactive tour? I would love to do something like that, I'm love CSI and NCIS. Sue

I'd love to do the CSI tour and Rodeo Drive in LA is on my list too. Hopefully the CSI tour could be booked when we get there.

I'm not big into shows and I don't really fancy the Universal Studios trip, but I have my eye on the SF bay cruise and one of the Grand Canyon trips.

I want to take a cable car trip in SF and hit the shops so want to use my free time for that and just get my Alcatraz fix from the bay cruise.

Can't quite believe it's just around the corner now - better get myself organised. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Hi Caroline,

Looking forward to meeting you, yes not long now, The Csi tour does not appeal to me, However Rodeo Drive in LA looks good see how the other half lives. See what happens when I get there. I am sure we will have a great time whatever we do.

Hi everyone, I am going on my first JY holiday to America Golden West in April 2013. I've seen these places so many times on TV and in movies, can't wait to see them for real. Anyone else going on this tour? I'm flying down from Newcastle day before leaving from Heathrow.

Hi. I'm going down on the train the day before and staying at the Premiere Inn at Heathrow.
