Hi I have never done a singles trip before so just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on anything. I'm 24 and have wanted to do America for ages but to scared to do it on my own. Is this a popular trip and what sort of age people are that choose this trip... Any advice is appreciated and hope to meet some of you on the trip

Thanks H x

Hi

I did this trip last year. There were 30 + people in the group. Ages ranged from mid 20s to early 80s, with more women than men!!!. People mixed reasonably well but, as in life, you will find you are able to relate to some rather than others. I really enjoyed most of the trip-Las Vegas was not really my scene but gave me the opportunity to see the Grand Canyon. I loved San Fran and Los Angeles was an experience.

My advice is go for it-you will be fine.

Hi Hannah

If you look at some of the other threads on this board, you'll see a lot of discussion about the typical age mix on JY holidays, and also the male/female ratio.

At 24 you would probably be the youngest on the tour, only you can decide if this worries you. Most people will be in the 50-70 age range, with a few either side. Age isn't a very good indicator of people's attitude to life, and there are some very "young" people in their 80's, and very "old" people in their 30's.

In my experience there will always be a group of people who meet up in the bar after dinner for drinks/chat, and this won't always be the youngest ones. If you want a holiday with heavy drinking, loads of time spent in clubs/on the beach/around a pool, then JY is the wrong holiday for you.

You'll see from the holiday description what kind of holiday is on offer with JY in terms of hotel accommodation used, activities undertaken etc. If you want a more active/outward bound type holiday (ie. camping, treking, white water rafting etc) then there are companies that offer this, Trek America being the biggest. This type of holiday will have lots of single people, although they cater for couples/groups as well, so it would not be an exclusively singles holiday. It's really up to you.

I've been to the US a load of times (not with JY), and it's a great country, with very friendly people, and I'm sure you'll enjoy your visit whichever holiday company you use.

Hi Stuart

Thank you for all your advice, I don't drink so the clubbing thing really won't be a problem. I guess on a holiday like this it is more about being with like minded people rather than age because for 24 I'm not the going out out going type. I do like meeting new people and going new places, I was more worried about the older people interacting with me I think rather than the other way round as I will literally sit and talk to just about anyone (think I get that from my mum 🙂 it wasn't a trekking adventure holiday I was looking for so you have confirmed that this is most probably the trip for me. I can't it to get it booked... Thank you again you have given me the nudge I needed

Hi

The fact that there are so many people on here all have slight doubts makes me feel better cos now I know it's natural. Have you got October in mind for a certain reason or just when holidays are. I know what you mean I need to get my deposit together now... I'm so excited 🙂
