Just returned from my 1st JY holiday. Here is my review as promised;

I had a wonderful holiday and met some lovely people. I really enjoyed the hotel which is in a great location set on a stunning beach, and is very clean with extremely helpful & pleasant staff. The food is absolutely fine, fairly standard I’d say for a Spanish holiday hotel, although I would suggest the long bench table used by J U is not exactly conducive to sociable dining. There is a very nice outside dining area, although the tour leader is not keen on this being used.

I would recommend paying the supplement for a front facing balcony - a perfect spot to enjoy the beautiful view especially early morning just as the sun comes up.

The holiday for me was a wee try of something different after 20 years of enjoying holidaying independently. As it turned out the ‘tour concept’ is not for me but for anyone who enjoys group holidays, I would have no hesitation in recommending Just You. I certainly spoke to many people who were more than satisfied and happy on this trip, and I wish everyone well on their future trips.

Glad you had a good time Jan. I do agree with you about the long tables for dining. I would have preferred to have had round tables too.

Hi Mark,

Thanks very much, I really appreciate your comment

I'd hoped I'd made it clear in my review, that finding a group holiday not to be my 'cup of tea', in no way indicated there was anything at fault with this holiday.

Excellent hotel with great staff in a stunning location. Lots of lovely people. What's not to enjoy?!

I just hadn't bargained for the regimentation.

And thanks to you too Bosuncat

Don't know how I missed your reply when I read Marks. Too much sun, think it must've gone to my head

Hope you're well and all recovered from your fall

Best Wishes

Your comment about the regimentation rather concerns me, Jan. Was it just because you have arranged your own holidays before or was the Tour Manager particularly strict (I also noticed your comment about not being allowed to dine on the outside terrace)? I realise that when there is a group a certain amount of "cracking the whip" may be needed to get everyone to the right place at the right time but there are degrees of "whip cracking".

This is one of the holidays I have had marked in my brochure for ages but now I am not so sure. Can anyone else give me their thoughts on how they experienced this holiday - perhaps it wasn't the same with another TM?

I am a lot better thanks Jan. I do know what you mean and understand what you are saying about regimentation. It's why I prefer smaller groups to be honest.

Re the regimentation, I'd guess it was probably a mix of both. Yes, having gone on my own so often means I am not used to being organised, and probably take exception to it.

I think possibly the TM can also make a difference. I am not at all surprised by your comments, Bosuncat, that the TM was very kind and I am certain many of our group would sing her praises very highly, and with good reason. But another guest did ask if I was on the tour with the woman shouting at everybody. I believe she had made comment that the average age was a bit higher than usual so perhaps she felt more support was needed.

I would most certainly not put anyone off going on this holiday. As I said, very good hotel, great staff, absolutely stunning spot. And it's the individuals choice as to how much involvement they have in the organised stuff. I genuinely had a wonderful holiday, met some lovely people, and made friends I am keeping touch in with. I couldn't ask for better than that.

Just a thought for Ann or anyone else concerned about the regimentation.

I wrote about the wonderful location with the stunning beach. But, I forgot (don't know how I could have) about the Enebrales. The hotel is literally joined onto this. You experience the lovely scent of the pine wafting over you as you sunbathe in the hotel gardens..

It is a beautiful area of natural conservation through the sand dunes and the entrance is approx 200m from the hotel. So...... if the regimentation does all become a little too much, less than a 5 minute walk and you can be in this beautiful area of quiet and contemplation. Smooth well constructed boardwalks with sturdy handrails make it an easy walk, And the real bonus is that approx every 200m the boardwalks offer a bridge to the beach to walk back to the hotel whenever you fancy. And that beach is spectacular! When the waves aren't too choppy I'd highly recommend venturing in for a swim, bit cool til you get 'in & over' but worth it.

So for anyone thinking the regimentation may be putting them off, I'd suggest Punta Umbria as the best place I know for having an antidote right on your doorstep.

I re-iterate, although I won't be returning with JY, I would still recommend it and most certainly highly recommend this hotel, not forgetting it is well worth paying the extra for the lovely view from the front facing balcony.

I wish Very Happy Holidays to all those who go in future

Many thanks for this reassurance, Jan. I'll continue to keep this corner of my JY brochure turned down as a possibility for next year.

You most certainly should Ann, it's a glorious spot.

Also, the lady who commented on our TM shouting at us was on her 5th trip to this hotel (says a lot about the hotel) with Saga and also said this was not the TM she had previously seen on JY trips.

I hope you go next year and have a fabulous holiday

Best Wishes

I agree totally with you Jan about the area and the hotel. I plan to go back at some point as I missed quite a lot with my various health problems on the trip. I wouldn't necessarily go back with JY though.

I would certainly recommend the hotel and the area Ann and if you choose to go I am sure you will have a lovely holiday.

Jan my view of the TM was judged on her kindness over my health problems but I agree totally with the regimentation and I can see why some people might not have liked her.

I have now been on 7 Just You holidays and have never come across a tour manager who has been 'regimental' so wonder who your tour manager was. I am assuming that she had to be a bit regimental as your were a big group.

Hi Jaya

This doesn't feel like the right place to put a name in print. I'm sure the appropriate search would provide it if you wanted to know.

I can only say again that 'I' found it to be regimented and that the Saga guest on her 5th holiday in the hotel commented on it. And as I also said previously I am sure many of the group members were fine with it.

You may be right about the size of the group. Bosuncat commented on this, saying she preferred smaller groups

Or...... I guess it could just be me being used to holidaying independently One woman's regimentation may be another's support.

Hi Jan

I guess you are correct as you are used to holidaying independently where you do not have anyone telling you what to do. You are your own boss!

Regards

Jaya
