I have just returned from my very first visit Just You holiday to the Olympic Riviera, and it is with a mixture of praise and criticism that I write solely from my personal point of view.
The journey from the airport was more than an hour and a quarter, NOT the 30 mins as advertised. We were thus unable to appreciate the hotel as we arrived in the early hours of the morning. The hotel reception area was large, leading to the restaurant and the inside bar, and downstairs to the Beauty Spa and indoor swimming pool, from which you could look up at the reception floor above through clear glass! It was marked as No.10. The two storey bedroom blocks went to the left and right of the Reception, numbered down from 9 - 1 and 11 - 18. My room was first floor with an amazing balcony overlooking the beach and sea and I was hopeful this was to be an example of the rest of the facilities.
A beach towel was available at reception for a returnable deposit of €20, and could be changed every day. The bars were accessed over little bridges over the swimming pool. There were also other pools as well as the main one all, with plenty of loungers and comfy cushions, and steps to the free beds near the sea.
Food: breakfast was a very large buffet, with waitress service of fresh orange juice and coffee.
Dinner was also a large buffet, BUT the hot food was placed into Bain Marie's just before 7pm and remained there until 9pm, this included meat, vegetables and fish. No chef carving fresh meat and total disappointment at the limited fish course, it reminded me of the food in a BHS or other chain store cafeteria. Definitely not a 4* standard.
I asked about a meze ,or houmous or pitta bread but was told these were not served in Greece, but tzatziki was in abundance.
We were unfortunate in that the World Cup dominated the TV programmes but live music was available on 3 nights, no Greek music or dancing, just an electronic keyboard and on one night a girl sang as well.
Tours: I had only intended to go on the inclusive wine tasting tour, which I assumed would show us some of the process of winemaking as well as the tasting. The morning started with a trip to an archeological site, which was OK, then on to the wine where we were offered three white, two red and one rose wine to taste and buy if we wanted.
The extra tours did not happen due to a lack of interest, although the Thessaloniki one did take placebo the Saturday, by I believe, joining up with a German tour. I had thought the tours expensive and had fortunately not intended to go.
The locality: there is really no night life in the area, just what is available in the hotel. There were two small restaurants nearby and a couple of bars but nothing to excite.
The guide: Lorenza was amazing as a guide, she was a source of good information and a great sense of humour as well, lovely lady. ;)
To sum up, if you want absolutely nothing to do, and huge expanses of clear sand and empty loungers, then this might be the place for you. Do not expect great cordon bleu cooking and great night life and also expect 80% German clientele.
The group with whom I travelled were lovely and tried to make me feel at home, but there were also complaints about the food and the method of keeping it warm, which could encourage tummy problems, especially with pork or fish, which by the way, there was little evidence, which was a shame as I had been so looking forward to eating fish during the week.
So mixed emotions and disappointment, I could not honestly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants good food and entertainment and would not want to go there again. :s
