Having researched several solo travel companies I decided on JY one of the reasons was that the flights offered with Virgin.

Have now received a letter stating that we are now flying with Jet airlines an Indian economy airline. Having checked the prices with both companies there is a difference of almost £300 which of course is not passed down to us travellers. I sent an email to customer services but of course got a fob off reply stating there is no difference in fares. Also stated that it gives a continuous baggage allowance but that is neither here or  there .

Well maybe you need to employ me because I can find cheaper flights and surly with a block booking of over 25 people you have much more buying power.

I could have gone with another solo company that states they use Jet airlines on an identical trip for a lot less money but thought I would pay more to travel on a premium carrier.

Also not being able to request or pre-book a seat by the window or extra leg room is not what I call giving the best customer service.

Not really looking forward to the holiday now not good first holiday with JY lets just hope the overall tour can come up to my expectations.

I totally agree with you regarding the change of airline. I have been considering the Just You trip to India for some time but hadn't booked as I didn't feel happy with the use of Jet Airlines for a long haul flight. There were no real grounds for this, it was just an irrational feeling but...

Anyway when I noticed that Just You were using Virgin I put the trip to India with Just You back on my agenda and was looking at dates with a view to booking. However I am now reconsidering this and if I had already booked I would be very, very annoyed with the change of airline especially as in another post regarding upgrades it was stated seats are block booked by Just You well in advance, so why the change???

So glad I have read this. I was seriously considering this holiday but there is no way I would fly that distance with a budget airline!

I flew with with Jet airways to India (not with JY but Saga singles) and I found the service excellent, I also was able to phone Jet airways direct and book seat numbers. If you ask JY for the airline PNR you can then contact Jet and book seats with them, they were very good

Hi I did one of the first JY tours to India in 2012 and flew with Jet Airways.  I have to say that I did not consider them to be a budget airline and didn't notice any difference between them and other long haul flights I have done with many different airlines.  The India tour has proved to be one of the most popular tours JY have run in recent years and, as an avid user of the forum, I have not noticed any complaints over the airline following any of the tours.  Hope this reassures you.  A long haul flight is an inconvenience and not something I really look forward to, but it is just a means of getting where I want to go and as long as I get there safely I'm not going to think too much about it.  It would be a shame to miss out on this outstanding tour because of perceived concerns over the airline!

All the best,

Bob

I've always requested an aisle seat and in 13 holidays have never been disappointed. Of course you have to do your bit by checking in online where possible or by getting to the airport early enough to pick your seat. If you use the self-service check in machines they always let you pick and change your seat or if you check in at the desk you can ask them for a particular type of seat.

Hi

I have done both JY trips to India and I agree with Bob. The Jet Airways planes were comfortable and the service was good. The holidays are both excellent and it would be a shame to miss out because of unfounded concerns about the airline.

Hi d17,

I believe it is possibly my post on this subject you are referring to, as I was also very confused at being told JY get such good prices (for themselves, not for us I may add) by block booking their seats many months in advance.

I was surprised to get a call from JY in September to say the flight had been changed from Virgin to Jet - I was wondering how JY could 'buy' the tickets with Virgin so far in advance, only to disregard them and obtain tickets much closer to the departure date with Jet? Again, I was fobbed off as well as JY seem to contradict themselves at every turn.

Fortunately I had previously upgraded my flight with Virgin to premium economy and Jet don't have this class, only economy or first, so I was quoted an extra £1500 to upgrade to first with Jet, which I declined. I was then advised I could keep my original booking with Virgin in premium economy, but that my flight would arrive a good hour before the Jet flight, and into a different terminal - fortunately there is one other person on the tour on the same flight so that I won't be totally on my own. Although I have 3 internal flights with Jet, I still preferred the idea of using Virgin for the long-haul flights. I don't think I would be happy if they had changed my flights, especially when Jet are cheaper- surely JY should be taking this reduction into consideration for those in economy? I also presume any marketing material is updated to reflect the change in airline? Also, in view of the fact I'm still flying with Virgin, why can't everyone else do the same, if they wish to?

I just hope nothing changes with my booking now as I'm due to pay my final balance this weekend.

Regards

Caroline

Hi

we flew with Jet airlines Mumbai - Goa and found them very good, very often the budget airlines are better than some of these better known airlines and I do agree that JY budget for themselves if some way down the line they spot an opportunity, an example of this being they changed our airline returning from Kota Kinabalu to Singapore to a budget airline meaning we landed in Sing 3 hours later yet there were seats on our original airline, this was very naughty of JY, again air asia there was nothing wrong with, they were very good actually

Hello

I have flown numerous times with Jet Airlines to Delhi, three of the times with TS and JY. I have always been very happy with JET airlines. I have also been to Nepal twice with Jet travelling to Kathmandu via Delhi. On both return flights from Kathmandu, the flights were delayed by fog which meant we actually arrived in Delhi well after our forwarding flights to LHR should have departed.

As the connecting flights were the same airline the flights to LHR were delayed for us. Although the passengers already waiting on the LHR flights, might not have been so happy with Jet, we were more than pleased. The service we received  ( all 9 of us) from Jet personnel on arrival in Delhi was excellent.

Hopefully I will return to India soon and would be so happy to travel with Jet Airlines again.

I am a nervous flier and  suffer from claustrophobia, so where ever possible, I upgrade on long haul for a bigger space and privacy.  I agree with others on the forum that recent prices quoted for upgrades bear no resemblance to the difference btween the cheapest ecomy and business flights on most airlines' websites.  I appreciate  that JY is entitled  to charge a fee for making bookings,  but in most cases I could have made an independant booking for less than the quoted upgrade.

Hi All thank you for your replies.

I am sure the airline will be ok but at the end of the day I was initially quoted Virgin and that was a main factor for my holiday. also the costing is a lot cheaper and they are not passing this on I shall be seeking independent advice form a travel journalist and if needs be my solicitor.

I see that JY has not responded to this post

Good Afternoon Sammiett,

I am sorry that you have had such a bad experience.

Could you please write to us so we can investigate this properly?

Kind Regards,

All this messing about, changing airlines, hotels, fobbed off and we are covering our backs responses, I am not surprised JY didn't win their BTA section this year.  Get your act together All Leisure and think about your customers as well as your profits.

Not being given TM's name, and travel details with final documentation is another gripe.

Rant over

Not being given the tour managers name isn't a big deal I don't think, I have had names in the past but it isn't that person when I actually go. So now I don't ask I just wait to see who is there when I go. I am not sure what Travel details you are missing with the final documents. For me an airline is a means to an end, as long as the flight gets me there I don't mind what airline it is. As for hotels I have travelled the world with JY and have stayed in many standards, anything better than a clean room and bathroom is a bonus...I am not in them long enough, for me the holiday is what I am seeing/doing/ and meeting new people.

Good Morning,

I hope you are all having a good day.

This is just to clarify that we do give you the name of the tour managers when you request it.

Kind Regards,

Mildred

Although useful, I can manage without the tour manager's name. It's  more important to have the correct information about whether they are travelling with the group from the UK, or meeting it at the destination. If its the destination,  clear instructions as to meeting point are needed. Also airport reps need to be aware of where the group will meet the tour manager. On my last holiday I was told the manager would meet the group in the arrivals hall. In fact she had travelled out  with us, and told those she met to meet in the baggage hall. I didn't  see her at the gate so it'd in arrivals. It was very difficult to persuade an official to let me into the baggage hall to meet the group.

I think that with regards to the Tour Manager the issue is with newbies. They likely won't come to the forum (presuming they hear about it somehow) so imagine how it would feel if you were an inexperienced or nervous traveller going on your first time with a company you are new to, going on a holiday with a bunch of strangers and not knowing who is in charge or who to ask for if you encounter problems. The regulars know that it all works out in the end but that is only with the luxury of experience. It seems to me such an easy thing to add on to the paperwork 'your Tour Manager is provisionally X and will be travelling with you / meeting you at the airport'.

Sorry Mildred, I don't agree.  Shouldn't have to ask, it should be on final paperwork together with where to find them.  As is posted further down by sallyc and SarahS - regulars know the drill, nervous new travellers don't, and not everyone uses the forum.
