Hi Mick,

I have been told that you were sent a message on the 23rd July, to say that we have received your visa application. It will now be processed, and confirmation will be sent with your final information approximately 14 days before departure.

I hope this helps.

Kindest Regards,

Monty

Hi Monty

Can you please tell me whether a Tour Manager has been allocated for this trip yet?

Thanks

Hi SallyC,

Leigh Cardona Britton has been allocated as the tour manager for this trip and she will be travelling from the UK airport. Please note that this is provisional and subject to change.

I hope you're looking forward to your trip?

Kindest regards,

Monty

Thanks Monty - that's good news as it looks like Leigh has done many Cuba tours over the years so we'll be in safe knowledgable hands. Yes, I'm very much looking forward to this trip.

Hi All

I went to Cuba last year. You'll get your visa with the final holiday documents.

Have fun.

Thanks Sylvia, could I ask for any tips for items to take aside from the usual, suncream, insect repellant, hat. Was there anything you didn't take which you wish you had? Were there many opportunities to dress up in the evenings?

Sallyc,

http://forum.justyou.co.uk/thread-80080.html

Even though there are political relaxations between the USA & Cuba re the embargo I am guessing that the supply of what we may think of as basic needs has not filtered down to the shop shelves in Cuba. If you think you may need it - especially medication, batteries etc then take them with you.

As regards the Visa this was always in the past referred to as a tourist card and it was stamped at immigration with part of the card retained by you to be surrendered on departure. Only the card was stamped and there was thus no stamp on the passport and no evidence on the passport that you had been to Cuba. This was of particular interest to travellers to the USA who might have thought that a Cuba stamp may hinder progress at USA immigration.

However, should you want a stamp, then Cuban immigration are usually quite happy to do this, but you need to ask. I have done this twice over the years - but on passports that were shortly due for renewal! At your own risk!. The last time the girl on immigration even agreed with me the place the passport be stamped.

As for dressing up in the evenings Cuba is fairly casual but you could "go posh" most evenings if you wanted to.

Enjoy, Ian.

Got a phone call from JY last week saying that a lounge wasn't available and we would be compensated £20.

Pity as its a great way to meet the others in the group especially as only a couple of us appear to be on the forum.

I haven't heard anything about the lounge - that is a shame. Perhaps we could arrange a suitable place to meet and hope to catch wandering JYers passing by.

Sally,

Got phone call friday morning, perhaps Monty can confirm this for us and I didn't just dream it.

Will have a look at the south terminal map and find a decent spot to meet, not booked breakfast at my hotel so will be having a coffee somewhere. Usually go for a Boots "meal deal" to put me on.

Sally,

Most of the food outlets are on the upper level, suggest either Wetherspoons or Costa Coffee (decision and time yours, lol). Hopefully we'll both pick up some of the others at check in.

I think the Flying Horse is probably a good bet - I will need to have breakfast (I know you will get breakfast at your hotel). If you give Monty the okay we can exchange email addresses and sort out the finer detail.

Not booked breakfast at hotel was planning on something in the lounge so will now get something at the flying horse. OK with me if Monty can exchange our emails.

Hi Sally

Things to take? You should definitely take all meds and toiletries you need. And, things for use in the public conveniences because some of them are lacking in many things, even soap and water! So ensure you have ample supply of toilet tissue, sanitiser, wipes etc. Our tour gave away our toiletries from the hotel and I had bought a supply of toothpaste and brushes, pens, pencils etc for the children. But if you do give things to the locals, give it to those who do not ask as they appreciate more than the career beggar. And don't forget the local guide and driver who are less well off than us.

Dressing up in the evening? You'll have the odd occasion where you might want to dress up. Our TM (Filomena Lima) organised a visit to a theatre in Camaguey to watch children doing ballet - cute. A couple of ladies were keen to see opera or whatever was on in Havana, I think. If you visit Tropicana Nightclub and of course the farewell dinner you can put your glad rags on!

The obvious advice is do not wear too much (or any jewellery) as we were advised by our TM that two ladies got mugged on a previous tour.

Hope this helps.

Hi Monty

Hope you enjoyed your day off. Back in post #13 and #14 Mick and I asked to swap email addresses. Could I ask you to sort that for us please?

Sylvia - thanks for your advice it is really helpful.

Hi Mick

I phoned about the lounge pass last week and was told it was still included. I decided just to wait and see whether the pass arrived or not. Is there anything interesting in the final info pack? I'm working away this week so won't get it til Friday.

Monty,

Not sure if you noticed on earlier posts on this thread (23rd/24th sept) Sally and myself gave permission to exchange emails.

Thanks

Mick
