"I wanted to ask. From you or anyone else who has been on this trip. Currently, and because of my ongoing eye condition it is unlikely to change, I am nervous about being out of the hotel area when it is dark or getting dusk because of uneven pavements really, and the fear of tripping. This is why I queried because of the having to eat out on some evenings. Is the walking around the area outside the hotel okay pavement wise? I know it is silly to ask this, and I am okay during the day but nightime and dusk has become a big problem for me."OK. I know what you mean about seeing in the gloom of early evening or after dark. All being well you will get a chance to have a look around in daylight before you need to think about going out at night and so you will be able to check things out for yourself.
If you are thinking of choosing a restaurant along the road in front of the hotel then it is a fairly straightforward paved and road area in both directions, with just the usual kerbs and steps jutting out - all lit.
If you want to get to the sea front do not turn left out of the hotel - as when you turn left again the pavement down to the sea (last September) was badly broken up and even had holes - the road was OK but of course had some traffic! However the pavement when you turn right out of the hotel was OK, a bit narrow in places and then turn right again down to the front - pavement/road - downhill slope going - mostly lit.
We were a varied bunch mobility wise but most of us managed. As usual best to go out with a companion or in a group - that way everyone can be on the lookout for problems underfoot! Don't know when it gets dark in May?
The restaurant in the hotel was fine and you will have already experienced it with the included meals.
Hope this helps. I keep thinking about writing a review and then other things come along and ………….
I will add that roads, pavements, walkways, were often less than even throughout Malta. But we were never hurried along. I would certainly suggest "sensible" shoes or walking sandals; and a stick or trekking pole for anyone a bit unsteady.
