I have never taken a tour or a cruise, but I am very interested in taking the Slovenia-Mountains & Coast tour. I am married, but my wife cannot travel long distances by plane, so if I am going to do this I have to do this as a solo traveler. I have never traveled abroad.

I have obviously found a tour I am interested in; I also have a passport. I have also checked out air travel to Heathrow. I do have a few questions.

Should I plan on arriving at Heathrow the day before the tour is scheduled to leave for Slovenia and leave the day after the tour is scheduled to end or can I make travel arrangements on Day 1 and Day 8 of the tour.

If I should not arrange to fly in or leave on Day 1 and Day 8, do you have any suggestions on hotel accommodations on the extra day?

On the tour, are there places and time to do laundry while on the tour or should I plan to bring enough clothes for the whole trip?

I think I have read smeplace where plugs on razors, etc. are different in the UK and Europe from the plugs in the US. If so, what do need to know?

Is there anyting else that you can think of that I should know as a firs time traveler abroad?

Good morning CNDyer,

Welcome to the Just You Community.

If a holiday leaves early on day 1 some of our travellers will travel down the day before and spend the night in a hotel. You may have seen the thread for one of the May departures to Slovenia where there are a few of the group staying in a hotel who have arranged to meet up for dinner the night before.

As long as you arrive at the airport in plenty of time for your flight on Day 1 you can either stay in a hotel the night before or make arrangements to travel on the day. I would recommend talking with one of our holiday advisors who can discuss the various options available to you, please let me know if you would like me to arrange for one of my colleagues to contact you.

In terms of laundry I have been advised that it is unlikely that there will be time to do laundry during this tour so it would be worth packing enough clothes for the entire trip.

The electricity supply in Slovenia is similar to the rest of mainland Europe and you will require a travel adaptor for the 2-round pin sockets that operate on 220 volts AC.

As for anything else - I would recommend taking a look at the Share your Travel Tips forum, there are many comments on there about packing, keeping healthy abroad, plugs & sockets that apply to many of our holidays. And of course, if you have any further questions that relate to your holiday you can always come back to the ask your editor board and I will endeavour to answer any of your questions.

Kindest regards,

Julia
